Follow these instructions in order to change the names and or times of the high scores.

First, click 'Start' and then click 'Run'. Type 'regedit' in the blank and press enter. Now you are in the Registry Editor. On the left, open the folders in this order: HKEY_CURRENT_USER; Software; Microsoft; winmine. On the right are ways to edit Minesweeper. Name1, Name2, and Name3 correspond to the names on the scores for Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. The times correspond in the same way. Double click the name you wish to change and change it. Do the same with the time but make sure that the 'decimal' option is chosen and not the 'hexadecimal'. Now the names and times should be changed when you go to the Best Times option under Game.

Mine Detector

When you open Minesweeper, type the letters "XYZZY" then press Shift-Enter and then Enter. A one-pixel white dot should appear in the top-left corner of your computer screen. When the dot turns black, your cursor is over a mine. If it's white, you can safely click that spot.

This cheat works best on Windows XP with a black desktop background.

Stop the Clock

This is an easy glitch to stop the timer and get the lowest score possible. Open Minesweeper. Click once and the press the Windows key and 'D' at the same time to minimize Minesweeper. Maximize the window again and the timer should be stopped.
