Pectus Excavatum Surgery
Mood:  not sure
Topic: I am so Anxious...
For those of you who don't know, Pectus Excavatum is a chest deformity where your chest is sunken in. It is very personal, and can affect not only breathing , but can cause a negative self esteem, especially when a child reaches the puberty stage. It looks like someone punched the person in the chest. It is about 3 and 1/2 centimeters deep if it is severe or moderate. It is most common in boys, but can also be found isn girls.
Obviously, you want and havee to correct this , and by this I mean you would have to get surgery. The surgery is about 90 minutes long. What happens during this time is a thick, long bar is inserted through your under arms where a slit is made. Then, they push it through to the other side of your body. (your other under arm) The bar is there to try and "pop" out the sunken chest. The bar is left in place for three years to make a "new" chest. After those three years, the bar is taken out with yet another surger in hope that the body has molded fully to the new shape.
So, you can see why I am so worried about the PE (Pectus Excavatum) surgery. Wish me luck, the big day is coming up!
