It was John who kicked off all this about a month ago. Almost every interview with an Ex-Rose would ask the question, "When are the Stone Roses getting back together?" to which they would always answer, "Never!" (John said he could never do it without thinking of Spinal Tap) But we were given a glimmer of hope when John told Time Out:
"... Yeah, the plan is to make a ferocious guitar record on my own. And then to put the Roses back together."
When he was asked about how he got along with Ian, he replied, "Well, that remains to be seen."
It was John who really nailed the coffin shut on the band when he quit in 1996, following the disasterous Reading gig, to form The Seahorses. Last year he appeared to have reignited the fued with Ian when he called him a "tuneless knob" and a "paranoid mess" in the NME, but John seems to have reconsidered. John, as far as I know, has not said anything further - could it be he said this just to put the feelers out for a reaction from the other Roses?
The NME also reports John was seen at a gig with Mani and Reni recently, although I believe this isn't correct, and has been mistaken for when Mani and Reni went to see The Coral.
