Ian is so far the only thorn in the side of the new Stone Roses. As of yet he has only commented:
"Well, all I’ve got to say is, why would I do that?
“I put everything into the Roses; my whole life went in. It didn’t get to where we thought it’d get to, but for the last eight or nine years, what a life I’ve had. I can make my own music with no barneys.
"You know, I think musically we’re too far apart to get back together. If you play one of my solo albums, then play one of John’s, I think we’re miles apart, so I can’t see how we’d got together musically now. Music’s an intimate thing, and I don’t know how we’d do that now.”
Ian said that to Manchester listings magazine, City Life on May 25th 2005. He has also made a comment to the effect of saying his albums have done better than John's, insinuating John was jealous of his sucess, but I can't find that quote at the moment. Last year, (04) when Ian was asked on BBC Radio 1 what kind of relationship he had with John now, Ian answed "I have no relationship with John."
However, to me, it sounds like Ian is still hurt and angry about the break up of the band, but Ian, that was then, this is now. Why not give John a ring and see what might happen? You were the best of friends once. Also, Ian's comment above has not been reported as widely as the more posative comments, which shows how much the public want the Roses back together!
Ian will be playing Glastonbury this summer, and already rumors about the Roses replacing Kylie (originally schedualed to play at the same time as Ian) - so who knows what might happen!
