The Origins of the Tequila Dog
Tequila could be toxic if not brewed correctly. And if the mixture was too weak or displeased Montezuma in any way, the brewer could find himself staring down the mouth of a volcano during planting season.
So tequila makers tested their potions on the local dogs. If they didn’t keel over after lapping up the copper-colored liquid, then the brewers had passed the first test.
If the dogs got a good buzz going -- evidenced by the ability to howl the opening notes of Led Zeppelin’s “The Immigrant Song” -- then the brewers knew they had a killer batch of agave.
The Tequila Dogs band takes this legacy of daring and community service to the rock’n’roll stage. Our songs are time-tested. Our skills are honed through pain-staking rehearsal and investment in Cabo Wabo, Patron and, in a pinch, Jose Cuervo.
So come dance, drink and have a good time with us.
And if you feel hesitant about that shot of anejo.
We’ll test it for you.
