The Story:
And what a crazy story this has been! It all started in the summer of '04. I was approaced by my uncle to demo some older country songs (bleah!) and during the discussion we turned from doing his old country songs to recording some of my rock tunes. A few phone calls were made, and at 9am on a Friday August morning, I found myself in the bass booth in County Q studios, Nashville TN, with my trusty Hofner Violin bass (nicknamed Rudi (HEY..BB King has his Lucille alright!)) belting out the high pitched chorus to The Cornstalker. Might I add that song is dimented... The two musicians that we hired to help me lay down the tracks didn't seem to mind my horrible morning breath singing, and by noon we had done as much damage as possible together, so they left me to do the rest. Many guitar and vocal overdubs later I was exiting County Q for the day to prepare myself for the next full day of mixing what I had recorded. A few trips back to the studio provided me with the satisfactory mixes and it was time to see what I could do with the product.
Well then stepped in the forces of nature...
Hurricane Ivan ravaged my part of the world, and things like recooperating loses and making sure I still had a roof became more important than a CD. So a couple months were spent..phoneless, TV-less, but not jobless.
However, in November things got back on track for most of us in the area, and I began the tedious process of packaging/promoting. After a radio station test, I found I needed to shorten the songs, and to kill two birds, no no...we don't kill birds. To...watch two birds with one set of binoculars...I decided to master the mixes I had, and get the mastering studio to edit the times for me.
This whole project has been sort of off the cuff and on the fly, so it has taken a little bit of time to finish up. I'm just glad it turned out so well!
