random9-10-03Well.. tomorrow's the big day--the 2nd anniversary of the attacks upon the World Trade Center Towers... I feel like I should be really contemplative and serious. So I will be for a while. What America Means to Me America to me is... the air I breathe. Life is worth nothing without liberty, and the people who fought and died for our country make my life worth living. Time and again, my country makes me proud by doing things like coming together as one, helping other countries out when those countries can't help themselves and standing by what we believe in. America is an amazing, multi-faceted, beautiful concept--not just a country, but a living, breathing thing that no one should ever take for granted. It seems like everyone has some bone to pick with our government--the IRS, the Senate, or even the President... But the thing is, they are doing what they do to the best of their ability and that should never be understated. America is amazing for what is has, but especially for what it doesn't. How many times do we wake up in the morning and thank God for the fact that we are not under the power of a Communist tyrannical leader--or that we have freedom of speech, or any of our other inalienable rights? Not enough, if I'm guessing right. So this Thursday--and every day after that, I think that we all should stop and take time to express our gratitude--to God, to the people who sacrifice their time and lives for us, and anyone else who comes in our path. Life accompanied by liberty is a beautiful gift that should not be wasted. So if anyone reads this, thank you for the role you play in the world--and I hope you are using your role to make this world--this country--your city--your home a better place. |
