With the success of the first "Saw" and the possibility of "Saw II" bringing in big bucks at this weekend's box office , could a "Saw III" be in the works?

Former New Kid on the Block, Donnie Wahlberg stars in the psychological thriller, "Saw II."

"Saw II" picks up where the first "Saw" (released in October 2004) left off.

Wahlberg steps into the role of Detective Eric Mason. Mason is investigating a grizzly murder that he thinks is the work of famed psychopath Jigsaw. Jigsaw has evaded police leaving body parts and destruction along the way.

Mason is correct, the latest crimes are indeed the work of Jigsaw. In the past Jigsaw tormented no more than two people at a time. This time he has trapped eight strangers in a room. They must use their wit and instincts to fight for their lives. For Detective Mason, the situation strikes close to home when he realises Jigsaw may be holding his (Mason's) son captive.

Wahlberg says hesitated starring in "Saw II" because the original low-budget film did well at the box office and has a cult following.

It's like man, if we mess this up after the first one did so good, I'll never live it down," Wahlberg says. "I think that was my biggest fear. People always say, 'Where you afraid to be on set?' I'm like, 'No. I'm afraid to be in a sequel.'"

First "Saw" successful at box office

Wahlberg overcame his fear with some help from his son who encouraged him to take the part.

"I wanted him to see what it is really like to make a movie like this and to know that that hatchet thing that chopped off 12 people's legs, it's just plastic dude," the actor told Associated Press Television.

Beverly Mitchell, who has starred in television's "7th Heaven" playing the role of Lucy Camden since 1996, says she was more than ready to star in a horror flick.

Mitchell says she was drawn to the role because, "There is no monster running around coming out of bushes or anything. It is scary because it is demented and twisted and has the possibility of being real. That is sick to me."

With the success of the first "Saw" and the possibility of "Saw II" bringing in big bucks at this weekend's box office, could a "Saw III" be in the works?

Wahlberg says audiences will have to wait to find out: "I mean if it is scary doing part two, it is going to be real scary doing part three. Maybe we can do ' Saw 3D' or something ."
