CHLORPROMAZINE SunPharm [PNF]
C: Chlorpromazine HCL.
I: Acute psychoses of unknown etiology, including mania, acute idiopathic psychoses and acute exacerbations of schizophrenia.
D: Adult 25-100 mg TID, up to 1 g. or more may be required by the psychotic patient. Childn 500 ug/kg/body wt. Every 4-8 hr. Childn > 5 yr 1/3 to ½ of the adult dose. 1-5 yr doses should not exceed 40 mg.
CI: Comatose states, presence of large amounts of CNS depressants, bone marrow depression.
SP: CV, liver or chronic resp disorders. Pregnancy and lactation.
AR: Mild urticaria, jaundice, dystonias, motor restlessness, tardive dyskinesia, dry mouth, nasal congestion, constipation, adynamic relus, urinary retention, moises, mydriasis, simple tachycardia and agranulocytosis.
D: When administered in patient w/ alcohol and drug w/drawal syndrome, agitation, tremor, anxiety and hallucination are relieved or reduced by chlorpromazine. Chlorpromazine blocks the effects of catecholamines, acetylcholine, histamine and 5- hydrotryptamine.
P/P: Film- coated tab 100 mg x 100’s (P 8/ tab).
C: Chloramphenicol.
I: treatment of bacterial meningitis, typhoid fever, rickettsial infections and brain abscesses.
D: Cap 250-500 mg 6 hrly. Susp adult 50-100 mg/kg body wt. Chldn 50 mg/kg body wt. To be taken daily in divided doses at 6 hr intervals.
CI: Hypersensitive, anemia, pregnancy and lactation.
SP: not to be used for trivial infections, adequate blood studies should be made in cases of prolonged or intermittent administration.
AR: Dose related bone marrow depressions and aplastic anemia which may lead to leukemia. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomatitis, glossitis.
DI: enhances the effects of coumarin anticoagulants, some hypoglycemic agents and anticonvulsants.
P/P: Cap 250 mg x 100’s. 500 mg x 100’s (P 212). Susp 125 mg/ 5 ml x 30 ml, 60 ml (P 24).
