C: Diphenhydramine HCL.
I: Hay fever, urticaria, vasomotor rhinitis, angioneurotic edema, drug sensitization, serum & penicillin reaction, contact dermatitis, atopic eczema, other allergic dermatoses, pruritus, food sensitivity, parkinsonism.
D: Cap/syr adult 50mg TID-QID. Children > 20 lbs 12.5-25 mg TID-QID. Inj adult 10-50mg IV or IM 100mg if required but not to exceed 400mg over a 24 hr period. Children 50mg/kg body wt. Over a 24 hr period in divided doses.
CI: Premature & newborn infants; asthma attack, hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine; lactation.
SP: narrow- angle glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, symptoms of prostatic hypertrophy or bladder- neck obstruction. History of bronchial asthma, increase intraocular pressure, hyperthyroidism, CV disease or hypertension. Pregnancy, avoid operating vehicles or machinery.
AR: CV & CNS effects, blood disorder, GI disturbances. Antimuscarinic effects. Allergic reactions.
DI: alcohol, CNS depressants, MAOIs.
P/P: Cap 25mg x 100’s (P1,200). 50mg x 100’s (P 2, 006.01). Syr 12.5 mg/5 ml x 60 ml (P79.75), 120 ml (P127.50). inj 50 mg/ml x 10’s (P 1,854.37).
