Well, since I do not like writing about
myself….I was told by Mojo Greg that I had to write a musical bio about
myself…..Oh god….how do I start this…..Hmmmm…..
OK, well it started long ago….back when I was
in grade school, around 4th grade, .my father( a great musician and
a great man ) wanted me to play trumpet in school since he was an accomplish
horn player in school. Well, little did I
know that this undertaking of learning to play a trumpet would put me on the
decadent path of Rock & Roll and Blues.
During this time of learning to play the
trumpet, my friends were trying to play drums….well,
the idea of me beating the heck out of the drums did not set well with my
parents. So my father, who also liked
the sound of a guitar, influenced me into learning the guitar along with the
trumpet. To me that was a great idea,
since Iron Butterfly was the hot band during that era and I had a chance to see
them play at the Illinois State Fair when I was in Junior High School. Well, seeing this young man on stage making
that guitar sing was eye-opening experience, I had to learn to play guitar!
From that night on, I was taking lessons
and practicing my guitar and sometimes practicing my trumpet. Well, playing guitar opened a world of Garage
bands that have come and gone with
time.
I have played in so many bands in college
and afterwards. To name a few….”Maria
Gate Band”…from St. Louis, “Blue Harvest” from Springfield, “Still
Crazy” from Springfield, “The
Switch” from Springfield, then I took some time off to get my son involved
in music….then I was asked to join “Just
for Kicks” from Springfield and now “Mojo
Jones Band”. I play music for fun…..music
is a therapy…when it becomes a job then the fun is gone…so I really enjoy
playing for the enjoyment of myself and seeing the enjoyment in others that I
play for.
