Kaya was formed in early 2002. Kaya is a cover band composed of four young, experienced musicians. They hit any scene with a set list unlike anything you've ever heard on the cover circuit to date. Borrowing from reggae, hip hop, R & B, classic and modern rock grooves, the band offers a dynamic range of talent that is sure to suit almost any listener. The band consists of Justin on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jay on lead guitar and vocals, Jeff on bass and vocals, and Ed on drums and back up vocals.

Jeff

Jeff King has been around the western mass area playing music for over ten years. At age seventeen, he started playing bars and clubs in the area (years before he could legally drink there). Back then he was a saxophonist in the Minnechaug Regional High School wind symphony, and bass player in the jazz band. He won the directors award his senior year and went on to study music at Westfield State College. At Westfield he played the upright bass in the Jazz Big Band, and played many musicals including : Pippin, Sound of Music, Guys & Dolls, Leader of the Pack, and more. Jeff has always taken pride in tackling any musical project no matter the genre, and has always played a wide variety of songs and styles. Some of these styles include blues, pop, rock, funk, reggae, R&B, jazz. He's even played gigs at church, weddings, and for crowds of children. This versatility is what makes Jeff a perfect fit for Kaya.

Ed

Ed is the drummer in Kaya. He has been playing off and on for years. Then one day in 1998, he decided to make it the whole of his life, as opposed to a part. Back in the day, he played in a local favorite cover band called the Fenderbenders. From there, he joined a band called Monk which turned into a Sublime style band called Product of America. It was after POA that Kaya was formed, and pretty much you know the rest. Ed is currently studying with Clark Siebold, jazz drummer extraordinaire. With determination and Clarky's direction, we hope to see great things come from this drummer. Ed's favorite time of day is from dawn to dusk. He likes movies and things that go bang. Energy is his best friend and his current goal in life is to be the best musician he can possibly be. Ed's quote: "Only you can make it happen".
