Taking Me Over

Chapter 7: Car Troubles

Meanwhile outside…

“What’s taking them so long?!” Erin yelled, “I’m going in!”

“Greg?!” called Ellen. The singing had stopped. She paused then opened the door completely. She couldn’t see anyone.

“Greg? Greg come on this isn’t funny!”

Suddenly two hands were covering her eyes. She jumped, startled, as a voice whispered in her ear, “BOO!!”

The hands moved away and Ellen turned around with a smirk, “That was so not funny Greg!”

“No it soooo was!” he retorted mimicking her Valley Girlish tone, “You must’ve jumped about a foot in the air!” he chuckled.

“Greg!” Ellen stood with her hands on her hips, a playful glint in her eyes.

“You are so cute when you’re mad,” Greg murmured pulling her closer and kissing her lightly.

A million thoughts ran through Ellen’s head at once, “Talk about going weak in the knees!

“You guys!” Erin called from the front door, “Geez do I hafta do everything?!” She headed towards the bathroom and opened the door, “Guys what’s taking so lo…OMG not again!!! What is it with you people?! Can’t you keep your saliva to yourself?! Geez talk about raging hormones! Come on!” She walked away disgustedly.

“I guess we gotta go,” Greg laughed, breaking the embrace and exiting the bathroom.

“Uh yeah…right…” Ellen stuttered putting a hand to her mouth and watching his retreating form.

“Alright guys lets go, “ Jessica shouted as Erin came back out with a scowl on her face, followed shortly by Greg and then Ellen who was in a total daze.

“Uh Jess?”

“Yeah?”

“How are we all gonna fit in there?” asked Jesse.

“Well if I had known you were all coming I would’ve gotten a bigger car,” joked Jess eyeing the large minivan.

Chris made wild hand movements causing everyone to look his way.

“Charades?” Matt offered.

Chris sighed cutely and started the ‘game.’

Matt played along pretending not to get what he was saying, “First word…legs.”

Chris shook his head no.

“Knees?”

“Thighs?”

Chris did a sort of sexy movement giving Matt the wrong idea, “Chris has sexy thighs!”

Chris grimaced as everyone laughed, “Why don’t we sit on each others laps?” Chris finally offered in his now wispy voice, eyes glittering flirtatiously.

“I am NOT sitting on his lap!” said Matt pointing to Jesse.

“Who said I wanted you to? I don’t wanna sit on your lap either!” Jesse shot back.

“Uh guys, I think he meant the girls on the guys laps…”

“But I think Chris’ll be too heavy for that” whined Erin jokingly.

“Huh?” Jesse looked puzzled for a second, “Oh, oh I get it! Cuz he’s a ‘girl’…hahaha,” he laughed awkwardly.

“Jesseeee you ruined the joke!” complained Erin.

“Um yeah let’s just…go,” Jesse said changing the subject.

“Come on Mal,” Frankie said motioning towards his lap from where he and the other guys were already seated inside the car.

“Uhhhh, why don’t you practice your driving skills Frankie? Would it be ok Jess?”

“Um sure ok,” Jessica answered giving Frankie a what’s-with-her look.

Frankie shrugged and moved up to the driver’s seat, “Well it has always been my dream to drive a mini van,” he joked.

Ellen climbed into Greg’s lap.

Chris gestured toward his lap offering Lindsay to sit with him.

Say no! Please say no!” Jesse willed her with his eyes.

Lindsay glanced at Jesse then back to Chris, “I uh…no thanks,” she stuttered.

Chris looked confused and then shrugged.

“Could I sit with you Jesse?” Lindsay asked.

“Sure.” He tried not to look too relieved.

Emma looked hurt for a moment but then quickly turned to Matt and gave a small smile, “Could I sit with you Matt?”

“I dunno…you look a little heavy…”

“Huh?”

“Joke, joke!” laughed Matt as Emma smiled with relief and sat down.

“Mal there’s a seat up here in the front…” Frankie started.

“Ummm…”

Chris started to point towards his lap but stopped when Matt turned around, not wanting to start the whole charades thing again, “Niki?” he asked, again his voice barely above a whisper.

“Uh. No, no it’s ok I’ll squeeze in next to Lindsay and Jesse if that’s otay…”

“Nah go ahead and sit with Chris, it’s already pretty crowded here,” Lindsay pressed.

“You sure?”

“Yeah, yea go ahead.”

Niki started for the back seat then turned around changing her mind, almost hitting Chris in the process, “Yo girl, watch the hair!” Chris whispered, his voice a little stronger considering his precious hair was in ‘danger.’ He quickly turned towards the rearview mirror and made sure not a hair was out of place, “Why’d you do that?”

“I, um, think I’ll move up next to Lindsay and Jesse. There’s an empty seat up there and I’m a little squished.”

“Aight where am I supposed to sit?” Jessica questioned.

Chris waved from the back seat and Jessica climbed back.

“Mal are you coming?” asked Frankie.

“Yea…”

Erin peered into the car and whined, “Where am I supposed to sit?”

“I think Chris has room for two women,” Frankie joked.

“No way!”

“Pig,” muttered Mal under her breath, “Why don’t I stay home and Erin can sit up here?”

“Whaa…but Mal!” Frankie complained.

“We could stuff Erin in the trunk,” joked Matt.

Chris waved from the backseat again.

“Looks like Chris thinks he still has room,” laughed Greg.

Frankie glared at Chris and Greg then turned to Mallory, “It’s up to you sweetie,” he said gritting his teeth into a smile.

“Ok,” Mal jumped up and climbed into the back carefully avoiding Chris’s hair.

Erin got in next to Frankie, “Are we ready now?”

“I say yeah if you say alright!!” Matt sang.
