Chapter 5: Remedies
“We’ve tried everything!” Emma sighed, “His voice just seems to be getting worse.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll think of something,” Matt assured her putting his arm over her shoulder. Emma blushed nonchalantly shrugging his hand off.
“Matt and Emma seem to be getting pretty close,” Ellen thought, “Hope Matt knows about Emma’s huge crush on Jesse.”
“Got any other ideas Em?” asked Lindsay worriedly, “Chris has to be in top condition. We don’t want to cancel, the girls will be so upset that their wittle Chris is ill.” She said in a fake worried voice pinching his cheeks. He winced pushing her hands away.
“I just though of something!” Greg yelled, “When my sisters were little and they had trouble breathing my mom put this thing in their room to help them breathe better. I forget what it was called…it lets out this smoky stuff…ahhh it’s on the tip of my tongue…” Greg struggled.
“A humidifier?” Mallory guessed.
“You’re so smart,” Frankie smiled.
”It was Greg’s idea.” Ellen pointed out.
“Guys I do…”Chris voice broke, “I don…” he tried again. He sighed and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen.
I DON’T THINK I HAVE A COLD, I FEEL FINE ASIDE FROM HAVING NO VOICE.
“It doesn’t matter,” Emma said, “Any time you loose your voice you could be sick.”
“Guys, I have another idea” Mallory whispered. But she wasn’t heard over everyone shouting out ideas. “Guys,” Mallory tried again a little louder.”
”Maybe if…or we could…no, no!” everyone shouted.
“GUYS!!!!!!!!” Mallory yelled!
“You think she has something to say?” joked Erin sarcastically.
”What is it sweetie?” Frankie asked while shooting a dirty look at Erin.
“I have another idea,” Mallory repeated, “Do you have all the songs you’re doing tonight recorded?”
”Uhhh…yeah, why?” asked Niki curiously.
“ Would it work if we played Chris’s part in the background and he just moved his mouth and danced?”
“Hey that’s a GREAT idea!” Frankie exclaimed.
“I guess,” Chris whispered hoarsely, “But I sou…” his voice gave out again.
“Ooh yeah that’s right, your voice has changed since those songs were recorded.” Matt finished.
“Yeah but I know we have some other, more recent, performances on tape…” Greg trailed off.
“Greg’s right.” Ellen agreed, “Besides, I doubt the fans’ll be able to tell over their screaming,” Ellen giggled.
“We really don’t have any other choice you guys,” Erin sighed, “For once in my life I’m gonna have to go with bozo.”
“Hey!” Ellen cried.
“Erin that wasn’t very nice.” Greg reprimanded.
“Who are you, my mother?” Erin retorted, “And if you don’t move that finger away from my face I’m gonna bite it off!!”
“Yeah Greg, what’s up with you sticking up for Ellen all of a sudden?” Niki asked curiously.
“I’m not sticking up for her! It’s just that Erin is always picking on Ellen.” Greg answered, blushing slightly.
“Riiiiiiiiiiight!” Lindsay said sarcastically.
“Yeah man, come on admit it,” Matt pressed, “She is your sugar ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuushhhhh!” The other guys joined in, “She makes you so excited and you don’t wanna fight it, you start to blush…” Ellen really did blush furiously.
“Looks like she returns your sentiments.” joked Erin.
“Eriiiiiiin…” Greg warned.
“Oh don’t worry Greg, I can take care of the little squirt.”
“Ex-cuuuuse me?!” Erin asked incredulously.
“But thanks for caring Greg.” Ellen said, batting her eyelashes flirtatiously.
Chris raised his eyebrows.
“Come on you guys we don’t have time for love matters right now,” Jesse encouraged looking at his watch and heading for the door, “we gotta get to the sound check!”
“Uh Jesse?” Matt questioned.
“What is it?” Jesse sighed impatiently.
“How do you propose we get there?”
