Taking Me Over

Chapter 4: Surprise

“OMG, I can’t believe Chris would do such a thing!”

“As much as I HATE Chris right now,” thought Lindsay, “Jesse looks sooo adorable when he’s mad. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before.”

“Are you gonna be okay?” asked Jesse worriedly.

“Yeah I’ll be fine,” Lindsay insisted, “But we have to act like nothing is wrong, I don’t want Niki to notice that I’m upset. Although she should’ve known I would be. Let’s go back with the others, they’re going to think we disappeared,” Lindsay said, “Besides, my Dad’s gonna be home from work soon anyway.”

“Uh, Frankie, could you…um…help me with something in the kitchen?” Chris asked.

“Um…ok sure I guess,” said Frankie puzzledly.

“Ok guys, we got some stuff to take care of,” said Niki as soon as Frankie and Chris had left the room.

“What’s going on?” asked Jesse who had just walked in with Lindsay behind him.

“Hey Linds, you ok?” asked Niki.

“Yeah why wouldn’t I be?” asked Lindsay with a huge smile on her face.

“Um, no reason,” Niki answered, “Anyway, I just called Mallory, she’s gonna come over in a little while and surprise Frankie. We gotta make sure he doesn’t think about her and get all sad and stuff. Sound good?”

“Sure…whatever…ok,” everyone responded.

“So what was it you needed help with?” Frankie asked when he and Chris were in the kitchen.

“Um…I…I…I kissed Niki.” Chris said saying the first thing that came into his head.

“Whoa! I didn’t even know you liked her.”

“Yeah well, that’s not all. Erin kind of walked in on us. And Lindsay was right behind her.”

“Uh-Oh.”

“Yeah, and she seemed really upset.” Chris said worriedly.

“Duh! That’s because she has humongous crush on you man.”

“Really?” Chris asked.

“Man you need to slow down on those acting lessons cause you sound genuinely surprised.”

“I am surprised, I had absolutely no idea,” Chris exclaimed.

“Are you kidding me? She never shuts up about you!”

“I never really noticed,” Chris replied distractedly.

“Yeah start noticing, because she’s probably gonna be pretty crushed.”

Ding Dong. “Uh, Frankie could you um, get the door?” asked Lindsay.

“Why don’t you, it’s your house.”

“Yeah but your um…uh…” stumbled Lindsay.

“You’re closer to the door.” Erin finished.

“Yeah, yeah what she said.”

“Oook then, be right back,” Frankie grumbled dragging himself off the couch.

“Now everyone act surprised when Mallory shows up ok?” Niki instructed.

“Hey it’s your Dad Lindsay.”

“You’re Dad? No way!” Greg joked.

“Hahaha, very funny Greg,” Niki retorted sarcastically.

“Thanks, I thought so”

“Come on, lets go say hi,” Lindsay offered motioning them to follow.

“Hey look who I found outside,” Lindsay’s Dad said.

“Mally!” Frankie yelled as she stepped out from behind Lindsay’s dad, “What’re you doing here.”

“So much for the element of surprise,” muttered Erin.

“Oh you’re such a party pooper,” Ellen admonished.

“Yeah, he was plenty surprised,” Niki said confidently.

“Come on you guys,” Matt said sardonically, “Lets leave them alone before it gets all mushy.”

“Thanks guys,” Frankie said smiling.

“Now that’s the smile I’ve missed all this time,” Mallory sighed.

“Oh boy,” Erin muttered.
