Taking Me Over
Chapter 3: Uh-Oh
“That was so much fun!” Lindsay yelled, “ Wasn’t it Chris?”
“Huh? Oh yeah, yeah,” he replied from where he was chatting with Niki.
“What’s up with him?” Lindsay asked Jesse.
“I have no idea him and Niki haven’t shut up since the boat ride, and she’s got that mysterious glint in her eyes, that’s never good,” Jesse laughed.
“Maybe they’re planning to sneak out of the house at midnight and raid the fridge, that takes some serious planning,” joked Matt.
“Yeah maybe,” Lindsay laughed but her heart wasn’t in it.
“Hey you guys can someone get my duffel bag, I don’t feel like getting up,” complained Erin.
“I’ll get it,” offered Niki.
“I’ll come with you,” Chris said.
“Be right back,” Niki called over her shoulder as she walked out the door.
“Ok, we have to find the phone book,” Niki whispered as they closed the bedroom door quietly.
“Why can’t we just ask Frankie for Mallory’s number?” asked Chris.
“Too suspicious,” Niki answered.
“Well what if she’s not listed?”
“I’m not looking in a normal phone book. I know Lindsay has her number in her phone book. Remember when she bought that huge address book because she kept loosing her small one? I know she has everyone’s number in there, and it’s big so we should be able to find it easily. Then we know we have the right number and not someone who has the same last name as her, and we don’t have to ask Frankie for it.” Niki answered confidently.
“You’ve really thought this through haven’t you?” Chris asked.
“Yup, now help me look.”
“This what you’re looking for?” Chris asked holding up a medium sized black phone book.
“Yeah, now lets look for her number…here it is!”
“Great, now what?”
“Now we call her and finish off the plan.”
“Chris and Niki have been up there for a while, I’m just gonna go and get my bag myself,” Erin said.
“I’ll come with you,” Lindsay offered, "I have to get something from my room anyway."
“Ok…uh-huh…ok…great! Alright, see you in a few hours!” Niki hung up the phone. “She’s coming!”
“That’s great! Frankie’s going to be so happy!”
“Anyway, lets get Erin’s bag and go back downstairs.”
“Hang on I just want to do one more thing while we’re up here alone,” Chris said mysteriously.
“Ok, but make it quick,” Niki said closing the door after making sure that there was no one there.
“Come here a sec,” Chris beckoned.
“Hurry up Chris what is it,” asked Niki. Suddenly without warning he kissed her.
“OMG!” Erin whispered loudly, “That is NOT good!”
“What’s wrong Erin?” asked Lindsay coming up to the door behind her. As she pulled the door open all the way she saw Chris and Niki kissing not to far from the door. “Niki how could you?” Lindsay asked with tears in her eyes.
“Lindsay…I…um…”
“Uh-Oh,” said Chris as Lindsay ran out the door.
“I’m telling Mom!” Erin yelled as she started to run out the door.
“Hold on just one minute,” said Chris grabbing her by her shirt.
“How could she?” was the only thought that ran through Lindsay’s mind as she ran down the stairs.
“Whoa! Where’s the fire?” asked Jesse whom she bumped into on the way into the kitchen. “Hey what’s wrong, you’re crying!” Jesse asked worriedly.
“Jesse you can’t tell anyone!” Lindsay said in between sobs.
“Tell anyone what?”
“Come on, sit down tell me what’s wrong,” Jesse said leading her to a chair in the kitchen.
“Let me go!” Erin whined from the chair Chris had tied her to.
“Not until you promise not to tell Mom.”
“Then we might be here for a while.”
“Please Erin,” Niki begged, “I don’t want Lindsay to be really mad at me, if you go around telling people, especially an adult, she’ll be even more mad.”
“Fine. I’ll keep my mouth shut. For now. But not because you asked me to,” she said pointedly to Chris. “This way I have something to hold over your head,” she smirked.
“You’re never going to let this go are you?” Chris sighed.
“In your dreams.” Erin retorted.
“I’ll take that as a no,” Niki laughed, “Come one lets go downstairs, the others are going to get ‘suspicious.’ Besides we have to get things ready for the surprise later.”
“What surprise?” Erin asked, “What’s happening later? Somebody better tell me what’s going on.”
“Maybe we should leave her there for a little longer,” Chris joked.
