Taking Me Over

Chapter 16: A Walk to Forget

Jesse pulled back suddenly.
“What’s wrong?” Ellen asked alarmingly.
Jesse searched her eyes thoroughly, “You know how you said revenge will be sweet? Well am I considered part of your little revenge thing?”
“Of course not! I would never ever use you like that!” Ellen replied sternly, “I really like you a lot. You’re a lot nicer than Greg!”
“OK just checking.”
“Ellen? Jesse?” Someone called from just inside the theater.
“Looks like our public wants us.” Ellen laughed.
The voice got closer, “Ellen? Are you out here?” Maureen opened the exit door of the theater and spotted Ellen and Jesse sitting closely together on the bench, “She recovered fast…” thought Maureen to herself, “Hey guys, I’ve been looking for you.” She said walking over to the bench and standing in front of Ellen trying to look important.
“What do you want?” Ellen asked nastily.
Maureen stepped back a little, feeling suddenly shy and embarassed, “I just wanted to say…”
“What?” Ellen asked again.
“I just wanted to say that…I’m sorry.”
“Well I think Greg should be the one saying that,” muttered Jesse.
Maureen ignored him and went on, “I had NO idea you two were going out, after all, in all the interviews and stuff they always say they’re single…and…well he kinda…I’m not saying it was all his fault…I didn’t…and he…what I mean is…”
“What you mean is you don’t want to take the responsibility for something you did!” Ellen retorted angrily, standing up and basically towering over Maureen, “It takes two people to kiss, ya know Maureen? Ever heard the phrase, ‘takes two to tango?’ Did you do anything to stop him? Did you tell him no, I don’t want to hurt Ellen’s feelings? Did you even consider how I would feel?”
Maureen shook her head slightly, a few tears forming in her eyes.
“Oh are you going to cry now?” Ellen asked menacingly, “Don’t you think I should be the one crying Maureen?” her tone turned sad as she continued on slowly, “Look I know this isn’t fun for you, but it hasn’t exactly been a walk in the park for me either. Or should I say a “Walk to Remember.”
Maureen sniffled, “I don’t want you to think that I think that this is easy for you and hard on me. Well it is hard on me…but I understand why you’re upset…” she eyed Jesse, “Or…not upset? Anyways, like I said before, I’m really sorry about what happened, and I hope you can forgive me.”
Ellen gave a half-smile, “Well I just met you, so this isn’t exactly a good first impression, but yeah…I forgive you…you didn’t know we were going out and stuff. Besides,” she smiled grimly, “Revenge is going to be fun…”

Greg sighed, trying to focus his energy on the movie and ignore all the girls around him oohing and ahhing over Shane West as the movie came to a close. “What’s he got that I haven’t got?” he asked himself as the credits began to roll, “Oh that’s right,” he remembered with a sigh, “He’s got a girlfriend who cares about him.”

(**e.n.: Let me remind you of what the seating order was, starting from the aisle- Erin, Niki and Frankie, Chris and Jessica, Matt and Emma, Jesse and Lindsay, and Greg and Ellen)

Greg squinted as the blinding theater lights came on. He started to get up, then stopped as he looked down the aisle at the “couples.” He sighed again and pushed his way to the end of the aisle, towards Erin’s oh-so-welcoming scowl. Lindsay looked almost as glum as he did, sitting all by herself since Jesse was out with…well Greg didn’t wanna go there. Greg stopped when he got to Niki and Frankie. He couldn’t easily climb over them because they were busy making out. Greg cleared his throat impatiently and starting tapping his foot, “AHEM!” Tired of waiting, he pushed his way over them and climbed more easily over Erin, “I’m going to wait out in the lobby, I don’t wanna stay here any longer than I have to.” Greg huffed at Erin.
“Whoa somebody’s got their panties in a twist!” she responded, looking almost sympathetic.
Greg just rolled his eyes and stomped towards the exit door, throwing it open.
“Owwww!!” a male voice yelled from the opposite side of the door.
Greg winced and slowly opened the door further…
