Taking Me Over

Chapter 13: Popcorn Coated Floors

“Woo-hoo! I love having a day off!” yelled Jesse as he stepped outside into the near blinding sunlight.
“Yeah isn’t it great Frankie?” Chris asked prodding Frankie.
“Yeah…great…whatever,” he responded glumly.
“Well what do you guys wanna do today?” asked Lindsay smiling at Jesse’s playfulness.
“I dunno you ladies choose,” Greg offered.
“Oh you’re so thoughtful Greg, but it’s your day off, you pick,” Ellen smiled happily.
“No you…” Greg laughed.
“No you…” Ellen laughed flirtatiously back.
“You”
“You”
“Youuuuu”
“Yooooouuu”
“Oh geez I’ll pick!” exclaimed Erin, “How about we see a movie?”
“Oh oh I really wanna see A Walk to Remember!” exclaimed Emma.
“Chick flick!” exclaimed Chris, “Matt would you please tell your girl to forget it.”
Emma blushed bright red.
“Aw come on Chris she’s not “his girl,” he doesn’t own her.” Jesse said putting his arm over Emma’s shoulder causing Emma’s face to turn another two shades redder.
Matt just rolled his eyes.
Lindsay looked at Jesse strangely then shook her head, “Whatever it doesn’t matter right now, it’s not a chick flick, I say we go see it.”
“I agree,” said Niki.
“Me too,” Emma added.
“Me three," laughed Ellen.
“It looks ooooook…” Greg sighed, wanting to agree with his girlfriend but not wanting to embarrass himself in front of the guys.
“How about you Jessica?” Chris asked.
“I heard it was supposed to be good.”
Chris sighed, “Man this is so unfair you guys outnumber us! Do I even need to ask you Erin?”
“It doesn’t matter to me either way.”
“Well the movie theater is only a few blocks from here let’s walk there.” Lindsay suggested.
“Yeah I bet it’ll be a walk to remember!” Matt exclaimed.
Everyone just groaned.

“Uh who’s got the cash?” asked Ellen, “Cuz I’m completely broke.”
“Relax girls we’ll pay for it. Our treat,” Greg smiled.
“Ugh, first we get stuck seeing a chick flick and now we have to pay. The things I do for love,” joked Chris.
“Ok, well they’re getting the tickets, let’s get some snacks or something!” Jesse said pulling Lindsay and Ellen over to the refreshment area.
“Yummy what do you want Jesse?” asked Lindsay eyeing the huge amount of junk food the theater had stocked up.
“Hmmmmmmm…well since I don’t think they sell peanut butter…I think I’m just gonna go for the “old fashioned” popcorn,”
He answered getting out his wallet.
“Sounds good to me.”
“Hey Ellen what do you want?” Jesse called over to her from where she was standing eyeing all the candy the theater had on display.
“Don’t worry I got it Jester,” Greg said coming over to where they were standing with tickets in one hand and his wallet in the other, “What do you want sweetie?”
“Hmmmmmm I think I’m gonna get M&M’s”
“Ok sounds cool.”
“Hey Emma what do you want?” asked Matt.
“Ummmm…whatever you want, it doesn’t really matter to me.”
“Dude they have Peanut Chews!” exclaimed Niki, joining Ellen at the candy counter.
“No way! I love those!” Frankie exclaimed following her over.
“Ahhh! They’re like, my favorite candy of all time!” Niki replied laughing.
“Wow he’s actually smiling,” muttered Chris to Greg.
“But it’s over candy…” Greg answered.
“Hey it’s better then before when he was moping around,” Chris whispered back.
“Ok so does everyone have everything they’re gonna want?” asked Jessica, motioning to Greg to bring the tickets over to where she was standing with the ticket taker.
“Yup, I think so,” responded Emma.
“Oh please Emma, that question does not apply to you. I know you’re gonna be getting up at least 4 times to go to the bathroom before the coming attractions are even over!” Lindsay responded not thinking.
“Lindsay!!!” muttered Emma angrily through her teeth, turning beet red.
“Aww don’t worry about it hun, I get up tons of times during movies too!” Matt comforted placing one arm around her shoulder.
The guys snickered at the lameness of his statement.
“Umm yeah if we’re done with the cheesiness can we go into the movie now????” asked Erin groaning again.
“Oh trust me Erin, some of my friends have seen this movie before. You think you’re experiencing cheesy now, just wait until the movie starts!” replied Jessica with a smile.
Erin threw her hands into the air with frustration, “Why me? Whyyyyy!?!”

“Ok where do you ladies wanna sit? Greg asked with his arm around Ellen.
“How about over there,” Niki pointed to a couple of empty seats near the front in the center.
“There’s only 6 seats there though,” Frankie pointed out glumly.
“Well then we’re gonna have to do like we did in the car and go on each other’s laps,” Chris smirked.
“I didn’t exactly have a good experience with that,” mumbled Frankie.
“Yeah me either,”
“Oh come on, cheer up man! Maybe you’ll meet some obsessed fans tonight!” Greg laughed.
Frankie just sighed and muttered under his breath, “That’s what I’m afraid of.”
“Aww, hey when I was little and was unhappy, my parents used to sing this song to me to make me feel better.” Niki offered and started singing loudly making everyone in the theater turn and stare, “DON’T WORRY…BE HAPPY!!! LALALA!!”
Frankie started to laugh softly as Niki continued in a fake Jamaican accent, “I give you my phone number, when you worry, you call me, I make you happy…”
Frankie started laughing harder and joined in as Niki came to the chorus, “Don’t worry, be happy…”
“Um yeah I don’t know you,” Erin said, shielding her face mockingly.
Everyone piled into the row and started picking places to sit. It was basically the same arrangement as the car, only this time Niki was on Frankie’s lap and Erin was sitting in the extra seat by herself (well not on anyone’s lap). It went (from the aisle): Erin, Niki and Frankie, Chris and Jessica, Matt and Emma, Jesse and Lindsay, and Greg and Ellen. Ellen was leaning her head on Greg’s shoulder and listening to him sing something softly into her ear. Suddenly two hands were covering Greg’s eyes, causing Greg to jump into the air, throwing Ellen onto the floor in the process.
“OWWW!” Ellen yelled, “What the he** was that for?!”
Greg turned around, with a bad feeling, to face the person that had caused him to throw his girlfriend onto the sticky, popcorn-coated floor.
It was Maureen.
