Taking Me Over
Chapter 12: Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow
“Mallory I swear, this is all just a misunderstanding!” cried Erin as Mallory dialed her home phone number.
“You’re right. It was a misunderstanding.”
“I’m glad you see thi- ”
“I shouldn’t have come here in the first place,” Mallory interrupted, “In fact I don’t even know why I even went out with him (she pointed at Frankie sitting glumly at the kitchen table) in the first place! I knew it would never…”
Erin heard an older man’s voice saying “Hello?” on the other end on the phone, “Dad? Hey it’s Mal. I just wanted to let you know that I’m gonna be coming home tomorrow,”
There was the sound of a confused male voice and Mal sounded tired as she answered, “It’s just…” her voice broke as tears dripped down her face, “It’s not working out. We’re not getting to see each…look forget it, just pick me up tomorrow morning at 11:30 ok? Uh-huh…yea…ok…love you too…bye see you tomorrow,” she hung up the phone and wiped her face turning towards Erin, “Look I’m not mad at you, it’s not your fault, it wasn’t going to work out anyway.” She sighed and left the kitchen.
Erin turned towards Frankie who was sitting at the table with a blank face, “Aren’t you going to say anything?!”
“Thanks for trying to fix everything.”

“Why do we always have to meet here?” asked Matt flopping on the couch.
“Because it’s closet for Greg, Chris, and Frankie,” replied Emma sitting next to him and putting her head on his shoulder.
“Yeah but it’s farthest for me and Matt,” whined Jesse sitting between Ellen and Lindsay.
“Oh suck it up,” Greg replied.
“It’s so cute when you try to act all tough.” Ellen sighed kissing him softly.
“You people make me sick,” Erin stated grabbing the remote to turn on the TV.

“Do you have to watch me like that?” Mallory laughed, “Brushing my teeth isn’t exactly a major historical event, “she joked.
“Are you sure you wanna leave?” Niki asked again.
“Niki. That’s the…” Mallory stopped to count on her fingers mockingly, “Seventh time you asked me that in the past five minutes!”
“I just want to make sure you’re making the right decision…” she trailed off.
Mal rinsed of her toothbrush and put in back into its case reaching for her bag of make-up, “I’m positive. It’s better for both of us. He’s a great guy and all, and he’s really sweet, and pretty cute…”
“Remind me again why you’re leaving?” Niki smirked.
“*sigh* Because I need more in a relationship than he’s willing to give.”
“Girl, you’re only 16! You don’t need to think that long-term!” Exclaimed Niki.
“Yeah I guess you’re right…”v
“Besides, even if you don’t like Frankie anymore…you seem to be warming up to Chris nicely…”
“NIKI!!”
“I’m just saying…”
“I’m leaving Niki. But thanks for trying to keep me and Frankie together but it really wasn’t meant to be.”

“I wish you didn’t have to leave Mal,” Lindsay sighed.
“Well it was nice while it lasted…” she replied craning her neck and searching for her Dad’s car.
“You sure you’re not mad at me Mally?” Erin asked worriedly.
“No, don’t worry about it k?”
Mallory spotted her Dad’s familiar beat-up Honda coming around the corner of Lindsay’s street.
Chris elbowed Frankie discreetly, “Aren’t you gonna do anything?” he whispered.
“What else can I do?” he sighed resignedly.
“Try saying you’re sorry?”
Mallory moved down the “line of friends,” hugging each of them. When she moved towards Erin, Erin looked unsure for a moment and then hugged her saying, “I’m sorry if I ruined everything.”
“I told you, don’t worry about it, I overstayed my welcome,” she smiled.
Mallory moved to Chris, “I’ll miss ya babe.”
Mallory smiled a huge smile and hugged him tightly. Then she finally reached Frankie.
“Listen Mal, I know it’s kinda late for this, but I’m really, really, really, 100 times over sorry about all of this.”
“Better late then never, “she whispered kissing him on the cheek, “You’re a really great guy, but I don’t think we could’ve put up with each other much longer.” She laughed.
He laughed too saying, “Maybe I’ll see you at one of out concerts…”
“You can count on it,” she smiled, again kissing his cheek. She stepped away and got into her fathers car that had (finally lol) pulled up.
“Parting is such sweet sorrow,” Matt joked, but even he looked sad to see her go.
“Oh shut up Matt,” Emma whispered putting her head on his shoulder and hitting him lightly.
