Popular Alley

The wild crowd gathered at popular alley
Just stopped standing.
Someone dropped a pin in a trash can
Someone stopped breathing and started to float.
Others joined in like the hype of the holocaust,
The cost of them all going nowhere.

While I stood useless like a child of the Nineties
Thinking someplace I'd find a job.
All the kids from the Eighties with their
Scrapbook babies, all read their classics and
Threw them away.

Someone took a rock and threw it at my
Forehead screaming, "Take a bite out of crime".
What I saw on top of the roof was a cop
With proof that it was all my fault.

I let my fists fly, he lit a match as he doused me,
Into a flood of gasoline.
I said, "Thanks for the shower and firepower",
But it's funny I don't feel so clean.

As I leaned over, my Mom said, "It's over",
My friend took his uniform off.
I said "You were the cop who committed the crime",
he said, "You didn't see nothing, all you heard was mime".

The sun picked up, the morning was rising,
The buildings all shone as the sky-scraped horizon.
I opened my eyes, took a breath from my head,
My shoulder all bruised and the skin
More dead than alive.

The wild crowd gathered at popular alley
Just stopped standing.
Someone dropped a pin in a trash can
Someone stopped breathing and started to float.
Others joined in like the hype of the holocaust,
The cost of them all going nowhere.

I stood useless like a child of the Nineties
Thinking someplace I'd find a job.
All the kids from the Eighties with their
Scrapbook babies, all read their classics and
Threw them away.
