Hello Miss Nicolette Anne Carrie,

My name is Nickolas Gene Carter and I am fourteen years old. My English teacher, Mr. Roland, told me that I have to write to you as a penpal for my assignment. He said that he met your English teacher during a conference in New York and they came out with this idea. I think it is stuispid because we have to type out the letter since our handwritings are incorrigeble and I don't noe how to type very fast and this is making me do stuffs slower than usual.

It is okay if you don't want to be my penpal, I can always ask Mr. Roland to get me another one. And if that person didn't want to write back, I can always write to another one. I am used to this. I have no freinds in school anyway. They say I am a nurd and a geak. Sometimes it hurts when they call me that but I don't care. I told Mr. Roland that I don't want a girl penpal because girls seem to hate me more than boys. At least the boys just ignore me, the girls make fun of me. I hope that you are not like that but it's okay. But like you, I no longer go to school to study. Mr. Lou had hired Mr. Roland as our private tutor so it's not as bad now. My friend Brian also got a girl for his penpal and he is scared to write a letter to her. I told him what to be scared about? Just type and send, right? Another friend of mine, Alex got a boy and he was disapointed. He likes girls and girls seem to like him. Sometimes I wish I was AJ.

Mr. Roland said I must write at least 3 paragraphs because he said a letter should have an introduction, a body (huh?) and a closing. So this is my thrid paragraph and so now I can stop. If you want to be my penpal, you can write to me at the address I wrote on the back of the envelope. Mr. Roland said we must be polite and so I end this letter with thank you and good nite.

From Orlando, Florida

Nickolas G. Carter

Ps: again, you don't have to write back, I understand.

Dear Nickolas G. Carter

First of all I would like to thank you for writing to me. It was such a warmth introduction from you but could you do me a favour? Could you drop the `Miss' from my name? It made me sound old and I am just fourteen. You can call me Nicole for short because typing out my whole name would only slow you down. Can I call you Nick for short? Or maybe you prefer Gene? It would help me type faster too.

Ms Jenna, she's my English teacher, said that it is good to have a penpal we can write to. It helps us with our language and I agree with her. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but you seemed to have a lot of spelling mistakes in your letter. Maybe a spell check in the computer can help you.

It is a pleasant surprise to learn that you're from Orlando. I was born there and grew up there until I was ten. My parents moved out to Australia due to my dad's business and I've been here for four years now. I understand your plight about school. I hated them too because I have to make new friends here and they don't seem too thrilled to have me around. But its fine with me. Lucky for me, my dad understands what I've been going through. He decided to hire a private tutor for me and my elder sister, and here I am now.

When Ms Jenna first told me about this penpal writing, I was a bit nervous. I mean this is my first time writing to a penpal and I was told again that you were special. I hope you don't mind me asking this, are you a handicap? So, do you stay with your parents or any special place? Do you have any siblings Nick? I have a sister. Her name is Natalie and she's two years older than me.

This is my fifth paragraph and I think I should stop here for now. I hope to get a reply from you soon. Maybe you can tell me about your hobbies or anything about yourself. So I end this letter with a big thank you and a warmth good night.

From Down Under,

Nicole

Ps: I don't mind having you as my penpal so write back to me okay?

Pps: I was just wondering what happened to your friends, Alex and Brian? Did their penpals write back to them? I know that you wanted to have a boy as your penpal and Alex wanted a girl to be his penpal, I don't mind if you want to swoop. But I like the way you write your letter, so it's up to you!

Hi Nicole!

Thank you for replying my letter. I never thought that you would want to write back. My friends keep teasing me coz you called me `Dear' in your letter. I had a hard time trying to ignore them.

I know about the spell check it's just that I was running out of time when I was typing out the letter that I didn't bother to. So you have an elder sister huh? I have two sisters and a brother and a sister who are twins. There's Leslie, BJ, and then there's Aaron and Angel, the twins. I am very close to Aaron because he's the only brother I've got.

I don't know what your teacher mean when she said that I am special so I asked Mr. Rowland and he told me that he told her about me and my four other friends. You said you want to know what my hobbies are right? I hope this will make it much clearer what Ms Jenna meant by that.

I have always love performing, like acting and singing and my parents have been supportive enough and sent me for auditions since I was five. It's the only time in my life that I feel happy and felt belonged. Two years ago, I met Alex. We've always bumped into each other for auditions. Not to bore you with details, he introduced me to his friend Howie who later introduced us to Kevin and we decided to work together. You know, help each other out in either acting or singing. Then the singing kinda worked out for us first so stick to that. But we need a fifth member and Kevin roped in his cousin Brian. So there's five of us.

We work our butts off to impress anyone who are willing to hear us sing. We landed a job in Disneyland (my first job ever and I was only twelve!) and sang covers of Boys To Men and many other artists. Lou Pearlman spotted us and wanted us to sign a record deal under his music company.

For now, we're going through vocal training and dance lessons (which I hate) and more other troublesome stuffs. But it's worth it. I've always wanted to do this. Lou said it's gonna take at least five years, when I'm sixteen, before we get to tour and promote ourselves coz he said AJ and I are too young. So in between all these hype, we still have to study. But I'm not bragging though, I'm not sure if we could stand each other for five years. I'm not sure what else to tell you about this. I don't want to sound so full of myself so if there's anything else you want to know, just ask me okay?

Alex's penpal wrote him back, he's cool. He's into skateboards and stuffs and AJ hated it. I told him to stick to it and stop judging people like that. I don't want to switch penpal with him because he's a little obsessed with girls, I don't want you to blame me for switching you for his penpal if things didn't work out with him. Besides, I really like writing to you. It's interesting to be able to write to a girl. Mom always say I could learn a thing or two about tidying up my room from my sisters. I asked her what I could learn from you since you're a girl and all and she mumbled something about asking my father. So I did, and he just look at me and said I will know the answer when I grow up. I am already fourteen, I don't know how much more grown up I have to be. So I still don't know the answer and that's why I'm very curious and would like to continue writing to you. I hope you're not disappointed. Alex is.

Brian's penpal sounds sweet. She loves candies, and that's about all I know so far. He didn't let me read everything, said that I'm still too young to understand. By the way, I'm the youngest here and it really bugs me.

So Nicole, I've told you about my hobbies, what about yours? Do you like playing basketball coz I love it! Brian said playing basketball will make us grow taller but seriously, you should see Brian. He's five years my senior and he's kinda my height and I am still growing. That reminds me that I hate the way I look so I'm not gonna be giving you my picture anytime soon. But if you want to give me yours, I don't mind. In fact, I will be looking forward to it.

I am going for dance class now (I am trying to escape from it) so I will stop here. Hope to hear from you soon. Goodbye!

Your penpal,

Nick Carter

Ps: Are you close with your sister?

Pps: How is Australia like? Never been there before. But please don't give too much details, I will get bored very fast.
