*To be an auxiliary unit of the Tiger Marching Band
*To represent the band, school, and community in an exemplary manner, serving as a role model for appropriate behavior and citizenship.
*To work as part of a group in achieving common goals.
*To develop good sportsmanship, self confidence, and self-discipline through practice adn performance.
*To encourage high morals and standards among its members.
*To promote leadership in the guard, the band, in school and in the community.
*A candidate must be in good academic standing.
A candidate must participate in tryouts
*A candidate must turn in a parental permission form(which is the last page of the tryouts handbook)
*A candidate must be enrolled in band
The Benton High School Guard will consist of contest guard and alternate members(size of guard permitting). The members of each shall be determined at the time of auditions by Guard Director, and Band Director.
*Contest members have a designed place in all guard activities.
*Alternate members are every much a part of the guard as contest members. The only difference is that alternates do not have a permanent place in competitions. They will replace or fill in contest members places in the performance as needed and as designed by the director.
*All practices are mandatory. The practice schedule will be determined at the beginning of each school year. The director reserves the right to call extra practices as needed and change the schedule if necessary. Ample notice will be given in these cases.
*All performances are mandatory.
*All members are required to attend Guard Camp. In addition to Band Camp.
Tardy policy
*Repairing, taping or cleaning flags, silks or other equipment.
*Drilling spins or angles or doing some other type of conditioning based on directions discretion.
*With the accumulation of 4 tardies, the member will be suspended from the next performance.
*Absent members must have a signed note by a parent or doctor in order to be excused. (has to be something serious)
*Only illness, family emergencies,or other serious situations are excused.
*Clubs that meet during the first half hour of practice. (Including tests) You will not be penalized as a tardy, but you must show up as soon as possible. You will have a max. of 30 minutes to make up tests. If you are not at practice by 3:20, you will be tardy. (Must have a note to be excused)
*Work in not excused.
*1st absence: a warning is given and time must be made up
*2nd absence: Suspension for the weeks performance (Winterguard) and time must be made up
*3rd absence: Broken contract resulting in dismissal from the guard. (Winterguard)
Fundraising is available to help guard members raise money for camp, uniforms, and other expenses. Guard members may be required to pay for a portion of these expenses. Amounts will be determined depending upon the amount of money raised by fundraising activities. Fundraising for the group account is mandatory, however, because everyone benefits. These events will be announced as they occur.
Auditions will typically be held each year for captain and other officers. An information packet will be handed out after the first tryout day. There will be one Captain, Lieutenant, Dance Manager, and Equipment Manager.
*Choreographing and performing a 1 1/2-2 minute routine before a panel of judges.
*Participating in an interview
*Anything else the director deems necessary
*Has to have been an officer for at least one year (all officers have to tryout)
*Member must show excellence in all equipment
*Member must demonstrate leadership
*Member must have been on the guard for at least one year(has to tryout for Captain)
*Member must show excellence in their specialty

*Set an example for the rest of the guard by following all rules and regulations of the Benton Guard and Tiger Band. Set an example by going above and beyond the call of duty.
*Be at practice and other events early.
*Act as a peacemaker in case of disagreements within the guard.
*Show no partiality within the guard.
*Responsible for contacting all guard members to notify them of changes of times, events, and other important information.
Coordinate spirit-raising acitivites with director approval.
*Oversee makeup Activities assigned by the director for tardy or absent members.
Responsible for starting practice on time by leading the warm up activities.
*Aid in teaching new work and routines to the guard.
*In charge of leading all guard activities in the case that the director must be absent from a practice, game or other event.
*Responsible for overseeing the transporting of all equipment and needed supplies to games, performances and other events.
1. Arrive at all practices, games and events on time with uniform and all needed supplies.
2. Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
3. Be respectful toward the director and fellow guard members at all times.
4. Accept constructive criticism from the director, officiers, and other guard members.
5. Follow directions the first time they are given.
6. Wear warm up attire at all games or events when not in uniform.
7. Conduct yourself in a manner becoming to a Benton Guard member at all times while in uniform.
8. There will be no talking about other flagline members outside of the team. NEVER
9. All members must be on time for all practice for all practices.
10. All members must attend all of summer camp and all summer practices.
11. All members must attend all of Band Camp.
Performance Suspension
*3 Unexcused absence
*Excessive absences or tardiness
*Failure to cooperate with director, officers or other guard members.
*Disrespect toward director, officers, other guard members or adults.
*Failure to abide by guard rules and regulations.
*In school suspension or any type of trouble at school.
Failure to complete assigned duties.
*Failure to turn in fundraising activities money within the designed time frame.
a. Only designed jewelry and accessories approved as part of the uniform may be worn.
b. All members must wear their "performance make up" at all events (no lip stick unless other wise stated)
c. All hair must be worn in the agreed upon style for performance.
d. Practice clothes should allow freedom of movement and reach your pelvis bone.
If the Captain resigns, the director will immediately appoint Lieutenant to Captain.
