Some Things That Happened

AWI has been playing together since about December of 2001. The band consists of five of us. Ryan and Barb sing, talk, and generally push things along. Eric plays drums and teaches us how to use our equipment. Alex is our guitarist, and he is the nice one. Pat is the bass player, and he is the mean one.

Basically, AWI is the product of the dissolution of the band It Takes All Kinds, from Olean, NY, USA. Olean is a quiet town an hour and a half south of Buffalo, NY, where the members of ITAK and their friends forged a large and active punk scene for years.  They ran a collective space called Cobra La in Olean that had dozens of shows, and sadly is now closed.  It Takes All Kinds formed with Ryan and a few other Olean punks a couple years ago. After lots of releases and touring, Ryan and Barb decided to move away from Olean, not because they no longer loved Olean, but because there is so much to learn from a change in scenery. They agreed with the other members of ITAK that they would not use the name anymore, but they would keep many of the songs.

AWI quickly began writing and playing as much as we could. The first show was in Polk, PA, and Ryan played bass.  Soon after we played our first weekend as a full band.  It went well, considering we had never had a full band practice.  Being unprepared for things is an agenda we still hold close to our hearts, even earning the label "borrow-core" on our US tour last summer.
