02/17/2001-"...the total flurry of activity continues. Yesterday there was a very long photo shoot, wherein photos were taken for everything from the album cover to various publicity shots. Later, the band went to a recording studio and worked on some of the b-sides till very late. Also, I worked much of the day in an editing suite, working with Dan our lighting guy preparing special video segments for the tour. Today we all jumped right into the frying pan again, with a full band rehersal, polishing up some old favorites, dusting off some hidden gems, and getting down with some new stuff!...speaking of new stuff, you've been waiting and waiting, but finally we've got our online merchandise store back in action! With an ever-expanding line of classic shirts that you just cant find anywhere else, and brand new designs to boot, it's what youve been looking for!...act fast! Yahoo! tells us that they just released a limited number of tickets for the NYC show. They will be available on-line only through the outloud and ticketmaster websites. I hope you can get some!...Well, the moment of truth has come and gone. A few hours ago, our meeting with the record company went down, about how they feel about the (99 percent) finished weezer record......and we have recieved the word, finally. I think it best for me to just present the facts and let you guys mull it over, because were not exactly sure how to take this. First of all, the record company told weezer that they LOVE the record, and had nothing but supportive and excited things to say about it. All the comments and talk being spoken tonight was positive and definately the kind of things we were hoping they would say. And these were thoughtful and insightful comments, not just empty enthusiasm. It seems that all the late night recording and mixing and countless hours of detail work to the point of total exhaustion have paid off. While it is of course YOUR opinions that matter most to weezer, getting the record company on weezer's side is simply essential to the process...so, right on! However...at the same time, we were told that they no longer wish to release the album on April 17th, as we were originally told. In fact, they would not even supply us with a replacement date, which effectively throws the release date into thin air. When will they let weezer release this album? From their excited talk, we had figured that they would have wanted to put it out "yesterday".... But now, its become a total mystery..." -karl

02/15/2001-"...a few notes for today, which was filled to the brim with more behind the scenes band activity, from photo shoots to b-side touch-up recording sessions... ...The current issue of Revolver (korn dude on cover) has a 2 page article on weezer including a nice big color photo. ...On Saturday, the band will meet with the higher-ups at Geffen, to play the finished album for them and see how they react. All fingers crossed, now..." -karl

02/14/2001-"Today is (was) weezer's 9th anniversary as a band! Thats right, exactly 9 years ago today the very first band rehersal was held. It's really hard to beleive its been that long, but a bit of reflection reveals a mountain of memories, and more stuff than even I can keep track of. And though '98 and '99 were on the lean side, I hope our burst of activity in 2000 and now 2001 is making up for it! Happy Valentines day too! ...weezer's Valentines day sadly had no time for romance. As Pat re-joined the gang here in L.A., last minute plans were coming together all day. Complex planning was required, because tomorrow is utterly chock full of activities for both band and crew alike. This includes a major photo shoot for a magazine cover, and a last minuite recording session to try and correct a few things that Rivers has been hearing in the final mixes. Combined with the fact that (most of) the band's gear is being shipped to Texas tomorrow to make it in time for the tour next week, you've got "Grand Central Station"-like chaos going on...its like an anthill thats been stepped on around here! My "Miami cold" isnt helping one bit...(pass the Kleenex!) ...But... like Gloria Gaynor, I (and we) will survive!" -karl

02/13/2001-"The pieces are starting to come together. Today Mikey flew back to L.A. after his little break, and tomorrow Pat re-joins the fold. There are a ton of business things going on right now, and everyone's got a lot on their minds. (I even forgot to post an update yesterday, I apologize!) The next few days will see several photo shoots, including the one for the album cover, interviews, band rehersals, some last minute album touch-up sessions, preparation of some special home video clips for use on the tour (you'll see soon enough), finishing the album credits and thank-you's, packing everything up for the tour, and perhaps most importantly, meetings. Especially important is the upcoming meeting where we play the finished album for the big-wigs at the record company. Will they like what they hear? After the negative reactions we got from them in the past, we are keeping our fingers crossed! Especially now, when there's no time to go back and keep recording! Its "do or die" time..." -karl
