"The
Reverend Wado Texas
is a hardcore rockabilly troubadour. When he gets up
on the
stage, North meets South like Elvis meeting Quinn the
Eskimo. It's
wild!!!"
Fred Eaglesmith.
By "Disciple" Jammin' Jimmy J.
“Who
loves ya Baby???”
If
I heard this deep growl from anyone else, I’d think the man was crazy, but
hearing it from the Reverend Wado Texas, it’s all part and parcel… I know
he’s crazy!!! And I thank God
that it’s his cross to bear and not mine.
Be
it a slow, sexy butt grabber or a get in your face hard beating rockabilly
screamer the reverend is always passing the sermon ”its only rock-and-roll”
and he practices what he preaches. Whether
it’s jumping off tables (usually filled with drinks and not a drop spilt) or
his own brand of love - reverend style (with a bump and grind), he is the
epitome of rockabilly.
Comparisons
and contrasts could be made here, but quite frankly, he’s an original.
The only man I’ve ever met who could wear leopard print three-piece
suits and not only pull it off, but look good.
Hey, he could wear sequins successfully.
Over the top suits him to a tee. He’s
a man who inspires his audience the way a child inspires adults… if only it
could be bottled!
Hyperactive
child is probably a label his mother would’ve called tame.
Age has not mellowed him, nor slowed him, but merely given him more
freedom and experience. A Devil’s Night prank in the life of a young reverend?
While all of his cohorts were wielding eggs at random targets, Wado was
following behind wildly throwing toast!!! Not
a typo folks! TOAST. Why?
“Cause nobody gets hurt, and the birds eat the mess by morning… a
full course breakfast they won’t soon forget.
Everyone wins!”
Everyone
is gone now and the place is quiet. The
reverend won’t stand for that! Elvis
comes blaring out of the speakers…. “Don’t step on my blue suede shoes”.
The reverend jumps out from behind the bar yelling “WHO LOVES YA
BABY?” and displays his brand new … you got it… blue suede loafers!
Uh huh - only the reverend!!! And
of course, maybe Elvis.
That’s
part of what the reverend is. I’ve
worked with and played with him, a man I call “friend” for a long time and
he still to this day can amaze me with his level of amusement and energy for
everything and everyone. But
beneath the all the fun and antics is a serious drive that you catch when in his
presence. What’s he serious about? In
a word, “rockabilly”. He is a
true performer who has both launched and supported many a career in the music
industry. Now it’s his turn for
the spotlight. He’s been known to
say many times “Vegas here I come!” I’ve
no doubt he’ll get there and he’ll turn that city upside down before he
leaves in a blaze of glory that won’t soon be forgotten.
Who
loves ya baby??? That’s easy Reverend… we all do.
