The band was formed in 1988 by Jim Lindberg(vocals), Jason Thirsk(bass), Fletcher Dragge(guitar) and Byron McMackin(drums). With their two first albums for Epitaph, "Pennywise" and "Unknown Road", Pennywise promoted a revival in 90īs punk rock/hardcore scene and soon lots of bands followed that open path. Developing a nervous, fast and melodic sound the band get a great respect through underground public and soon through all around the world. Unfortunatelly the band bassist and great friend Jason commited suicide after get drunk in july, 26, 1998. Randy Bradbury was called to play bass in his place. The band still going 'straight ahead' stronger than ever, surely with Jasonīs spirit present in all shows.
