Johnny Mars/Hometown Bands
Produced By Andy Wolff
Arranged by The Resinators
Both these songs were featured on our first single.
"Johnny Mars" is about someone who is different from everyone else, but he doesn't care. Throughout our lives, we are always subjected to peer pressure and or behaviour is always shaped by what people will think of us. The spirit of this song is about releasing us from that kind of attitude.
"Hometown Bands" is the song that no doubt will ostracize us from every cover band playing in the Lakehead. It touches on band politics and trying to make big in the small local scene.

Here's a story 'bout Johnny Mars, He came to earth from beyond the stars
He showed me his collection of guitars, And I'm told... They were gold
He came to Earth on a spaceship, He packed some music for the trip
Retro-rock that he thought was hip, And I'm told... It was old
LET HIM GO, LET HIM BE
HE HAS HIS OWN MIND, SET HIM FREE
It seemed he always went too far, Always shooting for the highest star
Always wanting to raise the bar, Where he would go... And I know
That he would be well known someday, Always doing things his own way
His legacy would be here to stay, He would show... All of us you know
LET HIM GO, LET HIM BE
HE HAS HIS OWN MIND, SET HIM FREE
LET HIM GO, LET HIM BE
HE HAS HIS OWN MIND, SET HIM FREE
And now he's gone that Johnny Mars, Leaving Earth to go beyond the stars
Taking off in his spaceship, Heading off on another trip
And I know... He would go... He was gone... But he'd live on
LET HIM GO, LET HIM BE
HE HAS HIS OWN MIND, SET HIM FREE
LET HIM GO, LET HIM BE
HE HAS HIS OWN MIND, SET HIM FREE

HOMETOWN BANDS... Playing in the bars
Getting people dancing, Thinking they'll go far
Playing all the hits, On the local scene
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
HOMETOWN BANDS... Paying all their dues
Some join the union, While others just refuse
Some got it made, On the local scene
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
HOMETOWN BANDS... Play the talent show
The host signs them up, But he doesn't let 'em know
That his own band, Will play most of the night
...GIVING LITTLE TIME FOR ALL THE REST TO BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT
