She said "Now who do you want, and what do you want to be?"
I said "I want to play my guitar & sing to the stars in the nighttime
'Till you start singin' along, singin' along with me"

Then when I was a young man, My Father in Heaven he asked me;
Said, "Won't you open your heart, and play your guitar for Me?
Now go & sing in My House, & lead all My Children in Worship,
So that they're singin' along, singin' along with Me".

Well, now it's been many years, I've been through some tearsand some heartbreak.
I asked "What do I still want, and who do I most want to please?"
Said "I want to open my heart, & sing praise to God up in Heaven"
