In 1999, Nuwan Wijesinghe and Adam Ferguson laid the groundwork for what would become the perennial stalwart of the New England metal scene. With little more than a dream, these two founded Shotgun along with then guitarist Shawn Finn and singer Paul Carroll.

The band performed casually and privately, honing their craft in the now infamous "Ferg Shack," in which they were known to give many the proverbial heart attack, with their raw, untainted sound. When reached for comment Carrol recanted the following, "We were all just getting up, trying to start it off." The question of where are they going to go, was often asked. Lars Kenseth, a friend of the band, was asked to step in as second Lead singer. He reluctantly accepted, hoping to throw his hat over the wall with regards to their musical direction. The band made many minor tweaks to the formula, one of the more notable changes was Nuwan's proposal that they change their name to Katabasis, a word with roots in Greek mythology meaning, 'a mythical descent into the underworld.' It was certainly fitting, and all the band's members, including Lars, agreed to adopt the new title. However, when the question of where to go was inevitably posed, Lars was often quoted as saying, "I don't know... I don't know."

By the summer of 2000, some major changes took place. Paul left the band, and Shawn Finn essentially broke off contact with the group. Thus with no guitarist, and no second lead vocalist, the band was left a broken entity. Katabasis has since been performing on and off, corresponding and collaborating electronically. However, after a nearly two year absence from the metal music scene, Adam, Nuwan, and Lars, have agreed to regroup in 2003... with a surprising new addition. Oooh, what will it be? With many question marks still circulating amongst fans, critics, and executives alike, there is much excitement in the air.
