Guess what? Hanging Chads were once the Basement Boys,
since we recorded our songs in a basement on some freeware
recorders and computer mics. But when we checked to see if
it was an original name, we saw that some others creeps had it.
During this period, the whole presidential election, butterfly ballad,
Florida thing was going on.
Thus Hanging Chads were born, mad props for Basement Boys for taking
that gay unoriginal name from us. Our first recording session was
the best of all, some of our best were recorded, in one-take,
short, sloppy, off-key, and catchy songs are what the Chads are all
about. "That's It," "Santo," and "We Have Nothing." Our first songs,
pretty good stuff for 2 Koreans who just got into this music concept.
Actually our first recording was "Basement Boys Intro," which wasn't
really a song, just us introducing ourselves, "Hi- we're the Basement
Boys, I'm Kevin, and I'm James, we're the Basement Boys." There were
also the cover songs of the Slipknot's prime that is "Wait & Bleed,"
2 versions, and NOFX's mad catchy/witty song "Please Play This Song
On The Radio." Ahahaha. Oh yeah I forgot this really dumb song I
made while James was doing his homework during our inspiration high
(fool), anyways the song was called "This Is Gay," which was what
it was. A sad rip-off of AFI. Later around 3 AM, while we were trying
to come up with another song, James' mom came down and told us to sleep.
Though 2 bulges were coming out of the back of my head, I refused to
sleep. But James still made me. Actually I think I played Badge Of Honor
or something for about an hour while he slept. Yeah. After that day
we recorded like mad, on our own, but those usually sucked. Out of
around 100 demos, we only kept about 10-20. "You Don't," "Chris' Song,"
"That Killer Doll," "Tim's Song," "Deep Ddong,"and "Steve Seo's Song"
were among the top-cuts. Still none of those were as good as our first
songs. We were beginning to suck. Finally, after a few months, James
came over for some church thing. We recorded a good amount then. The grown-ups were pissed cuz we were so loud while they were praying and stuff, at least I think so, they all could've been giggling like asian school girls for all I know. Too bad James only had an acoustic guitar that was missing the e-string. Top cuts for that day, "Jason's Song" (very emo), and the song that got Hanging Chads a bad rep at church, "Enoch's Song." You would know why if you knew the history behind it.
The time killer songs were "We Have Nothing II," "The Mushroom (Ah Ladida)," and really crappy acoustic version of "Santo" that was deleted afterwards. That was our last productive recording session as of now. There was a 1-song recording every now and then, but usually deleted. Finally near the end of the 8th grade year, there was a sleepover with a bunch of non-Chaders, and James and I brought along our equip, so we did manage to record some stuff, but it was dumb, and funny at the time, but not anymore. During this period, we decided to recruited a drummer, bassist, and yes, a DJ. We managed to get and bassist (Dieter), and a DJ (Mike). This was the time where we started recruiting random people, Andrew (any instrument), Tony (vocals)...We were dumb. Eventually Mike turned into a drummer, and now the band was complete. Yeah, that was that, but Mike didn't get a drumset and Dieter quit or something.
I think we won't ever recruit anyone else, we'll keep it original with just 2 guitars. During summer vacation, the Chads broke-up for awhile, but on October 6, 2001 the Chads came back with "The Prom Song." That is where this bio ends.
Short, wide, and a talented individual, James is one of the current members of the Hanging Chads. He enjoys eating all the food he can. This includes Korean and American, plus all other kinds. He enjoys sports such as soccer, backyard football, and wrestling (not the fake crap, real). Some of his hobbies are listening to music, playing his guitar, going online, hanging with friends, breakdancing, and vocalizing. The talent from James has been a large part of the Hanging Chads' music.
Kevin, plain, and tall. Kevin is one of the current members of the Hanging Chads. He enjoys going online for 5 hour periods. All he does online is downloading whatever. He enjoys no sports because he thinks they're gay and can't do them. Some of his hobbies are listening to music, playing his guitar, going online, hanging with ...friends?, drawing weird people, and thinking of stories in his head. The talent from Kevin has been a large part of the Hanging Chads' music.
