ECW is basically me telling you about something. This week's topic is
music.
The date is Sunday, June 9, 2002, 10:19:36PM. All my new mp3 files
were getting extremely cluttered with a bunch of other ddong in my
folder. The mess was mad inconvenient, so I decided to organize it
all. A new folder was needed, and a clever name was essential.
"whutthenew" A perfect name. Originated term from Chae or
Rich- the 'whut the' and then adjective part. This cool folder was
just gonna be a temporary thing til I stopped being lazy and backed up
the songs onto a CD. After that, the new songs would join the others
in the 'alt/pop' folder. A few weeks later all the songs were backed
up and it was time to transfer all the files. No... I became used to
the certain songs in the 'whutthenew' folder. They would probably lose
their magic if they got moved.
The first 'whutthenew' folder was established and filled between a
12-day period. Sick amounts of Weezer and Avalanches songs. I got all
3 parts to "Mix Up, Triple J"- a 2 hour, 39 minute total. The Weezer
songs I got were pretty crappy cuz I tried to get some of their
Maladroit stuff before it came out, but it was all live ddong. Lots of
variety in this folder. My dying interest in punk music, my growing
interest in normal rock and rap, and even some electronica/techo
junk.
'whutthenew' TOP 50 MUSIC WHORING LIST: in order of download date
(earliest to latest)
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers- My Friends : Though an old song, I
heard it for the first time on the radio. FM89.
2. Sideways Hank O'Malley- The Ballad Of Chaplips Calhoun :
Something like that. The hick song on Grand Theft Auto. Instant love
when I first heard it.
3. Shods- Shot Himself Up : Someone told me Weezer rip-offed
this song with "Hash Pipe," and they were right.
4. Get Up Kids- Overdue : I hated this song at first cuz it
seemed boring and I wanted to hate it. But then after like a week I
actually listened to it, and now it rules.
5. Get Up Kids- Campfire Kansas : Same situation as "Overdue,"
except that it took me about 5 months to start liking it after I heard
a guy on my bus singing it and it sounded alright. I never really
listened to it before September.
6. Brother's Johnson- Strawberry Letter 23 : The awesome song
from the Kellog's Special K commercial.
7. Whipper Snapper- Holiday Road : A cover of the National
Lampoon theme song thing. A faster, sloppier version. The original
song might be better.
8. Daft Punk- Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger : Everyone knows
this song, and they know it's cool.
9. George's Answering Machine Song : You know...from
Seinfeld.
10. Badly Drawn Boy- Something To Talk About
: The song from that British movie. Hugh Grant and some kid.
Forgot the movie, but it's a good relaxing song.
11. Avalanches- Frontier Psychiatrist
: Awesome samples song. Horse noises + parrot scratchings + movie
samples + trumpets + phat beat + "Come on Eileen" = a cool sounding
song.
12. Bad Astronaut- Greg's Estate
: A great melodic song with the lyrics 'lester, the molester of
children' can't be bad.
13. 15 Minutes Late- Marzo
: Local Chicago band. Pretty good acoustic song with the bonus
bongos.
14. Recover- Better All I Have
: Will have you trying to singalong in a matter of seconds but
try to see if you can understand what the guy is saying.
15. Camper Van Beethoven- Take The Skinheads Bowling
: A Saturday morning drive song. Gets you in a really good mood.
The violins are a nice touch.
16. A Tribe Called Quest- Scenario
: Starts off with some Bruce Lee music, then goes into typical
rap stuff 'here we go yo'. Busta Rhymes owns in this song.
17. Luce- Good Day
: A good cure for the 'post good times' depression. Reminds you
that 'it was a pretty good day'.
18. Eels- Last Stop This Town
: Life was much sadder without this song. I have no clue what
instruments are used in this song. It's like the same sound for the
beat on "The Real Slim Shady" song except it is used better in the
Eels song.
19. Pollyanna- Cinnamon Lip
: I get sad everytime this song ends. Sexy guitar riffs, sexy
drums, sexy vocals.
20. Pavements- Major Leagues
: Ddong...first depressing song of the bunch. More of a
fall/winter song.
21. Plain White T's- Jessie's Girl
: They stole my idea for my next band's name. I hate them, but
the good song redeems them. Alittle.
22. ...and you will know us by the trail of dead- Another Morning
Stoner
: Long ass name, but a good one. Also extremely awesome ancient
Japaneseish samurai intro riff.
23. Hives- Hate To Say I Told You So
: It's not whoring if people already know the song. But no
matter. This song was big at the time, so I liked it.
24. Air- Don't Be Light
: The beginning is extremely cool, the middle is dark and
gothicish, and the end has a freaky Lassie-ish whistling.
25. Wax- California
: This song reminds me how awesome the weather always is in
California. Eats me.
26. Bachelor Number One- Summertime
: Can't take the vocals too seriously for some reason.
Unintentionally funny, yet catchy, and a typical summer song. More of
a eastern song. Ideal place to listen; a Milwaukee barbeque?
27. Seafood- Led By Bison
: Can't believe they're opening for Saves The Day...Saves The Day
should be opening for Seafood with this song. Saves The Day can be
"okay," but their best songs are crap compared to "Led By Bison."
28. Cursive- The Martyr
: Freaky guitar intro that hurts your ears. Above average EMO
song. None of that gay hardcore stuff or typical emo lyrics.
29. My Bloody Valentine- Sunny Sundae Smile
: Some great upbeat stuff, though it's hard to hear the
vocals.
30. Local H- Oh Yeah
: Heard this song in my van, and fat Chris was singing along.
Hypnotising song.
31. Les Savy Fav- In These Woods
: The noises the guy makes in the beginning are so hard to do. I
love this song.
32. Shins- Girl On The Wing
: Andrew thinks this song sounds too old but it isn't. There's
beeping sounds throughout whole song, it's awesome.
33. Denis Leary- The Asshole Song
: Just great.
34. Moxy Fruvous- King Of Spain
: Sounds like the 'Talespin' theme song. That song was awesome.
Two people saying 'buhp bah' is what Moxy Fruvous calls an
international orchestra.
35. Anal Cunt- A Team Theme
: Every music folder needs some metal.
36. Minibosses- Super Mario Brothers 2
: SWEET
37. 5-3 Federation- The Legend Of Zelda Rap
: We don't need Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, Snoop, Dre, Nellie, or Ja
Rule. We got 5-3 Federation. Possibly the finest rap group coming out
of Montana.
38. Ween- Spinal Meningitis
: This song makes me want to cry.
39. Vanilla Ice- Ninja Rap
: Essential...
40. Beulah- Emma Blowgun's Last Stand
: Sounds like an orchestra, so many instruments. The long intro
is relaxing, and the vocals are pretty good too.
41. Superdrag- True Believer
: This song is impossible to hate. There's a sad quality to the
song.
42. Beulah- Sunday Under Glass
: Prob one of the top Beulah songs. The chorus reminds me of one
of those Chinese folk songs played by old people.
43. Beulah- A Good Man Is Easy To Kill
: The whole orchestra thing sounds so warm and Christmasy.
<-gay
44. Bright Eyes- The Calendar Hung Itself
: This guy sounds like he's crying throughout the whole song.
Weird sounding sound effects make the song even better.
45. Deltron3030- Things You Can Do
: Del, prob the smartest rapper. So many big words in this song.
Typical radio pop intro/chorus though. Not a bad thing, it sounds
cool.
46. Portishead- Roads
: Not recommended for driving. Makes me so tired, and the vocals
are quiet and sad. Maybe this song was purposely made to make people
fall asleep. It's wavey sounding and ddong- trancelike.
47. Flys- Got You Where I Want You
: Some old 90's radio song, sounds like Pearl Jam/Creed. Alex
Pozo gave this song to me on a CD...
48. Jurassic Park Theme Song
: Nice
49. Offspring- Pretty Fly For A White Guy
: Before Alex Pozo gave me this song, I didn't listen to it for
like 4 years. Used to be a fav in 6th grade.
50. Queen- Bicycle Race
: Oh man, such a gay sounding song. But it rules.
Alex Pozo gave me like 30 songs on a CD and they ruin my folder cuz
they were mostly crappy songs by Phil Collins and Michael Boltin. The
folder contains 198 songs, currently the biggest of the series.
The current 5 'whutthenew' folders, are each special to me in their
own unique way.
