We got there just moments before the lights went out to set
the tempo for Chevelle. Chevelle had some pretty good mosh pits and
sounded very good live. They were on for about 45 minutes, and then
said, "Thanks a lot, we can't wait to come back. We're happy to be on
this tour with Filter. Be sure to make lots of noise for Filter.
The wait for Filter seemed endless, but the people at Saltair tried to
please the awaiting crowd with some tracks from Rage Against The Machine,
Korn, Static-X, and P.O.D.
Filter finally came on and opened with Welcome To The Fold at which
the crowd moshed wildly at the opening drum beat. Filter then went on to playing
It's Gonna Kill Me with a loooooong outro. Then Richard started talking to the
crowd. About how Geno had food poisoning and just got finished puking backstage.
They played a few more tracks when Geno and Richard got into a sarcastic argument
about how "Geno plays Satan's music!" which led Geno to mumble something to Richard
making Richard say something like, "Say it so I can hear it, don't mumble it."
Geno then replied, "I can't hear my voice, I have all the screaming fans on my side."
Richard then went on saying that the bass player Frank had problems because he ran out
of pot.
Filter played some more until a stupid fan threw a quarter at Richard and hit him in the nose.
The band left the stage until the chant of "Filter! Filter!..." brought them back out.
Richard then said something like, "This @$$hole over here threw a quarter ate me and hit me in the nose. So
if you're a Filter fan and you see anybody throw anything at me or my band, kick their
#^*%ing @$$. Why don't you just come up here and fight me right now, pu$$y."
After a few more songs and Richard disapearing offstage while singing Cancer,
Richard then threw some water bottles out in the crowd, and a moment later, Richard
suddenly said in a humorous manner, "Who said throw the beer?" (referring to the lawsuit
where a woman accused Richard of throwing a can of beer at her face).
The end of the concert was nearing and Richard was talking to the crown again. He mentioned
something about Seattle and was talking about Salt Lake City, then mentioned Dave Grohl's name.
He then mentioned Britney Spears's name to which a ton of fans booed. "But do you wanna know a
secret? Britney Spears has a crush on yours truly." is in the likeness of what Richard actually
said, I don't remember. Richard moved on talking about how he hates people like Britney Spears
and The Backstreet Boys because they have so many #1 hits and they don't even write their own songs,
while bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Rob Zombie don't get any recognition for their work. This
was all said a couple of songs before Take A Picture (Filter's only top ten hit). "Now I know
why Kurt Cobain killed himself," said Richard "he saw the future." Referring to his favorite song,
Take A Picture and talking about how it's their only top ten, Patrick implied that Filter,
Korn and Limp Bizkit are some of the bands to f*ck with people like the Britney Spears and The Backstreet
Boys.
The band left the stage with the exception of Richard who was doing a solo. After the solo was over,
the band came back out ready to play Take A Picture, and Richard said something like,
"Here it is, our only top ten hit." raising his closed fist in the air with a sarcastic "Yeah!" and
"That makes you larger than life."
Take A Picture was played and the night was over.
