Greetings Dark Spectators!

whole band

Dark Spectacle goes to the movies...again

Once again the Cedar Rapids Independent Film festival has honored the band by choosing a selection from the band’s “Thoughts on life” CD as intermission music. CRI Films highlights independent films from Cedar Rapids to the Midwest, & anywhere else. As well as independent films, the festival uses independent music. A selection of Dark Spectacle’s music will be played during the intermission at the weekend long festival, which this year runs April 4th and 5th. Last year, the band’s music was also played, and the band’s instrumental rock tune “the Philippians 1:21 paradox” was even used as the opening theme song to the festival.

This is a great honor and opportunity for the band, and they send thanks out to the local music supporters in the CRI Film Festival. For more info on the festival, go to www.crifilms.com/festival.html.

The future of Dark Spectacle…

In November 2002, Dark Spectacle wrapped up a few live performances after having their most successful year ever. The band impressed, won over, and even shocked hundreds of people at several festivals in Iowa and Illinois. They took their modern hard rock set throughout the Midwest, and even broke into a few new radio markets, as they continued to be blessed with steady CD sales.

As the holidays approached, and 2002 drew to a close, the band members agreed to take time off to enjoy the holidays with their families, and recoup from a rather hectic year. There was every intention to come back together the first of the year and continue moving forward with more songs and more surprises. That intention, however, has been put on hold.

Dark Spectacle has NOT broken up, but founding members Dave and Barbe Paris are still treating the band as on hiatus. Barbe has been spending her time in various new hobbies, and Dave continues to write material for several different projects. Dave has been re-studying acoustic guitar music, learning pieces in solo finger style, acoustic jazz, classical, and flat-picking, with the intention of playing solo performances in coffeehouses, churches, and other venues. Hopefully, enough material will eventually lead to an acoustic CD. He has also been writing rock instrumental songs ala Joe Satriani, with the hopes of putting together a band to perform live.

On top of that, Dave has ALSO begun writing with a local keyboard player by the name of Harry Ebbeson III. Harry is active in classical/adult contemporary/new age music, and has been promoting his latest CD both online as well as receiving airplay on local Cedar Rapids, Iowa radio stations. Dave and Harry are sorting through ideas right now, praying for direction in their project, while not tying themselves down to any specific sound or genre. Both members are having a good time, but are not sure what type of music will come out of the project or when anything will be available. Dave and Barbe are also “kicking around” ideas and songs for Dark Spectacle.

Jason Feight, who sat in with the band in the fall of 2001 and joined the band officially in 2002, has moved on to other musical endeavors. He has been sitting in with other area groups and trying to find musicians to form something of his own.

Understand that although Jason is no longer “in the band”, and the band is not pursing shows, they still hope to perform. They want to come back to some of the festivals they played last year, and will regroup if called and available for a show. This of course, depends more on the promoters than the band themselves.

Please pray for the group and the members, and drop us an email as well. The group has been blessed with many opportunities in its three years; achieving things in their music other bands only dream of. Many of you have been supporters and directly responsible for those things. Your support of Dark Spectacle and its members have been a true blessing and what has managed to keep the band going; Thank you for supporting indie and Godly music, and for your support of this band. God willing, we hope to see you again soon.
