Hey there! You've just stumbled upon the site for Celtic Gumbo, an Irish Celtic band in
Baton Rouge. We're kind of new at this whole web thing, so please bear
with us. As surprising as this may sound, you can form a group of six musicians and a
Guiness drinker and not have a single computer nerd in the lot of them. But
we're learning. Well, since you're here, you might as well check us out.
About a year ago, some Irish loving folks decided it was high time Baton Rouge got a Celtic band. Phone calls were made, the proper introductions followed, and Celtic Gumbo formed out of the whole ordeal. Although a few musicians have come and gone, the ones you'll find on this site are the ones who have stuck it out and are well on their way to establishing Celtic culture in Baton Rouge. The band's major influences have been the usuals...Bothy Band, The Chieftains, Silly Wizard...and also New Orleans's Poor Clares and Houston's Clandestine. But we like to make our own arrangements and add our own thing to the traditional tunes we generally play. So to describe our music, I'd say put all those bands in a big gumbo pot, let simmer, and add lots of spice. Hope you enjoy!
