Contract for Care and Instructions for Bolton Band Uniforms

Dear Parents,

Please go over this form with your band student(s) about the care of our band uniforms. These uniforms are very expensive and have to last several years.

  1. Never get out or put up a uniform without the uniform coordinator, Mr. Chipman or their designee's presence.
  2. When uniform is not being worn it should be hung up in this manner: Pants properly creased and hanging over a suit hanger. Students: this means that the seams on inside and outside of your pants should be in the center of the hanger when you are through. The coat should be hanging smoothly over the pants and buttoned.
  3. The white overlay is to be hung up separately on a white plastic hanger. Because the students get so hot while performing the marching routine at ballgames and competitions, the uniforms are often damp when we get back to the band room. The weight of a damp overlay hanging on top of a damp blazer stretches both pieces of the uniform out of shape. PARENTS: If your student isn't in the habit of hanging up his or her own clothes, then please give them a quick lesson!
  4. When we are away at ballgames or competitions and the uniform isn't being worn, then it should be hanging in it's garment bag. This will prevent any uniform from being separated from it's owner and will keep it from winding up on the floor of the school buses and being stepped on.
  5. Hats are to be kept in their proper boxes when not in use.
  6. PERSONAL HYGEINE is a must!! Students are required to have good hygiene habits, especially when wearing the band uniforms. A thorough scrubbing of the neck and behind the ear area must be performed before the students put on the uniforms to go to a ball game or competetion. We've learned that we must insist on cleanliness before putting on the band uniforms. We will also be checking the necks of the overlays as they are put away after each performance. Hopefully this gentle reminder of what is expected of your student will be all that is needed. (55 uniform overlays had to be re-cleaned once because of the necks being dirty, costing the band another $110.00!)
  7. Breakdown of the cost of the uniform is as follows: Blazer $130.87, Overlay $128.94, Pants $79.35 and Hat $42.08; this makes the total cost of replacing a uniform $381.24 plus tax and shipping as required.

Any damage to the uniform other than normal wear and tear will be you and your students responsibility to replace. I ask that you and your student read and sign this letter and return it to us by August 1st. We represent Bolton High School every time our students perform. More importantly, students, you represent yourselves, your families and your bandmates whenever your perform. I am responsible for how our band looks when in uniform. Please help me to help you look your very best. You are representatives of the best high school band in the world. Let's look like the best band in the world! If you have any questions please contact me or Mr. Chipman.

Thanks for all your help. Alice Putnam, Uniform Coordinator.
