Due to the amount of time that we will already be missing school to go to cheerleading, band, and chorus competitions and poor attendance by some students in these activities, I am asking sponsors not to take any member of their group to an out of town competition who has absences in excess of five (5) days for cheerleaders/pom and eight (8) for band and chorus. The number of days are based on the time of year that the major trip is to be taken. Any exceptions to this must be accompanied by a doctor's note presented to the principal immediately upon returning to school from the absence. If absences in any class should exceed twenty five, even with a doctor's excuse, I am asking that you do not take the student on the trip regardless of whether it is your class or another class where the limit has been exceeded. Even If they have missed for medical reasons, it is my feeling that the student cannot afford to be absent for academic reasons anymore than the twenty five (25) days. Please advise all your students and their parents about this memo and have them return a signed copy for your file.
