WARCHILD IN THE PAST

Originally a progressive rock group, Warchild didn't achieve any success until they reworked their sound into a bombastic yet melodic metal. In their first incarnation, the Nebraskan band called The Kings Of Beer. The band -- featuring the core members Duke DeBoise (drums/vocals), Chaz Chefarro (bass/vocals), Greg Wolfgang (guitar/vocals), Ronny Acid (guitar/vocals) -- won a national talent contest in the early '80s, which led to a record contract. After changing their name to Warchild and releasing two albums in Florida (Warchild, The Memory Book and Warchild: Top Secret Stuff), the band landed an international deal with Global Grind Records. By this time, Ronny Acid had left the group and was replaced by Chaz Chefarros' brother Terry; and the enigmatic keyboardist Le' Rouge also joined the lineup.

In 1986, Warchild released "Taste My Pain Punch". On the album, Le' Rouges' european heritage and keyboards took a prominent role (they provide the main riff in the hit title track), which nicely complimented the band's smoother pop melodies. The change in style proved successful, as the record became a Top Ten hit in the U.S. and U.K.; both "Taste my pain punch" and "Tricky Wizard" became Top Ten singles, as well. Delivered two years later, "Operation: Rollback" continued the formula of the previous record. It also was a success, although its numbers didn't match those of "Taste my Pain Punch". Two years later, Warchild released their final album, "Trouble Time", to little attention. A comeback was planned for early '88 but fizzled out following the mysterious death of long time member and friend, Le' Rouge. After a media buzz over Duke DeBoises' homemade and home distributed porn series, they faded quickly out of the limelight again. It was'nt until 1992 when, they had all but forgotten eachother, the Cheffaro brothers' Mother, "Mama Cheffaro", encouraged them to get back to their roots, and release a new album. Warchild regrouped with original guitarist Ronny Acid, now going under the name of Gerald Von Earn, taking over for Le' Rouge on the Keys. The new album, "In The Heart of Marlbrolgia", is currently in post-production and has a tentative July 4th release date.
