The Little Girl

As a little girl swinging around in Daddy's arms, she fell in love with romance and the idea of being in love.  Daddy was her favorite person in the world.  When she grew up she wanted to marry Daddy.  This little girl would play her Elvis and Debbie Boone records over and over romanticizing the day she would fall madly in love just like the characters portrayed in those love songs.  She created a fantasy world inside the depths of her imagination and dreamed up the perfect man as she whirled around in circles flaring her skirt out and falling to the floor dizzy from the motion.

This man that she would fall in love with and live happily ever after with would be no ordinary man.  This little girl had such big dreams for this romance.  She envisioned a man who would enjoy the same music as she did--a combination of oldies, love songs, and many genres up to current day hits.  This dreamguy would write and/or sing love songs to her with all the same passion as all the love songs she ever heard combined.  This man that she dreamed of never had a face for this little girl had such a broad definition of interests that she never set a determination for detail as such.  Her dreamguy had to have brains, being witty, funny, and most of all genuine.  His arms would be strong and his lips would be tender with eyes that could read into her soul and understand those things she could not articulate.

This little girl eventually grew up.  She began to forget the dreamguy she had wished for as a child and as a result settled for less in her lovelife as an adult.  She went on to get married and start a family.  However, this young lady felt that something was lacking from her life.  Her marriage was less than perfect and left her unsatisfied in the end after, of course, hanging years on her face.  So, one day she found herself alone again.

As time went by, this young lady began to remember her childhood dreams and the expectations she had visualized of her dreamguy.  This time she would never again settle for less, even if her dreamguy did not exist.  The young lady met many potential loves, but never pursued those ventures because of her vow to never settle for less again.  One day, she met someone who at first seemed to be just a wonderful friend.  She would talk to this young man off and on over the course of a few months.  But one night things changed when his face brushed hers and the electricity that rushed through her body awakened her senses from their slumber.  From that day she could not get him out of her mind or her dreams.  The more time she spent with him, the more she liked him.  This man was very smart, witty and funny.  She enjoyed their long talks and was even more intrigued by his love for the same genres of music that she liked as well as his talent for singing.  She continued to see this man off and on over the next few months.  The more she learned about him the more intrigued she became.  She found herself thinking of him as she fell asleep, as she awoke in the mornings, and periodically throughout the day.  This man seemed to meet those standards she romanticized for her childhood dreamguy.  However, this lady's heart would be broken once again.

This man was not ready for a relationship with the young lady.  He had things in his life which prevented his ability to pursue a relationship with any woman.  This man cared for this lady but was not in love with her, and he could see that she was falling deeper and deeper for him.  Thus, the day came when he had to bring her fantasies to an end.  He was going away for a long time.  They would not be able to see each other anymore.  It was for the best as he could not bear to see her cry.  Just as quickly as he came into her life, he disappeared.

The young lady did not cry the day she said goodbye.  She had felt much pain in her life and did not want to make it harder for this man to walk away.  She waved her final goodbye to the man who rocked her world for a short while.  Her tears eventually came, but never would he realize the love she had for him.  He came, she loved.  He left, she wept.  Although saddened by his departure, this young lady was happy to have loved once again and thankful for the short time she had to dance in that almost-forgotten fantasy world with the dreamguy of her childhood.
