Linkin Park are taking the rock world by storm with their blend of hip hop and rock, and their current album Hybrid Theory has been in the Top 30 for over three months now. Speaking to worldpop, the band discussed what this nu-metal phenomenon is all about, although when it came to being compared to Limp Bizkit they weren't so happy. Guitarist Brad complained, 'Arrgh...it's a European thing; in the US we're normally compared to Shania Twain! We're used to answering questions about how similar we are to Shania Twain, but strangely in Europe they can see parallels between us and Limp Bizkit?'
On the subject of nu-metal Brad described Linkin Park's take on it as, 'We blend a lot of musical styles ... we were originally called Hybrid Theory because we put so many different musical styles onto our album. Each of us has influences that range from hip hop, electronica, to heavier stuff and really what we do with the record is combine these elements as seamlessly as possible.'
The band also revealed their thoughts on boy bands, and what they thought N Sync and Backstreet Boys would be like as nu-metal acts, 'I'd love to see one of those dudes playing like a flying V, or a kick drum leaping about the stage,' laughed Brad and rapper Mike added, 'I'd like to see Backstreet Boys dressed up as Slipknot ... They'd be a real hit with mullets, mullets are a huge touch.'
