Kawayan is a quiant, idyllic town of the Province of Biliran. Nestling at the foot of the mythical Mt. Panamao, it longingly gazes into the Visayan Sea. With its enhancing mountains, trails, coves, islets and falls, Kawayan is an emerging eco-tourism destination in the region.
It derives its name from the Visayan word for bamboo, an endemic plant that symbolizes flexibility, resilience and persistence... traits that aptly describe the culture and values of its people. Mired in history and deep appreciation of its myths and folklores, its people have kept traditional Filipino family values strong. Love for life, respect for creation and strong sense of community are its core development principles. Located 142 kilometers away from Tacloban City, the regional capital of Eastern Visayas, Philippines, Kawayan is located in the northerntip part of the scenic Island Province of Biliran. From the capital town of Naval it is the second municipality going north with a distance of 18 kilometers or approximately 30-minute vehicle ride. Kawayan is accessible by regular transportation that plies the Kawayan-Naval-Tacloban and Kawayan-Ormoc-Cebu routes. Jeepneys, vans and buses provide convenient transportation. >>GO>>
