Naval is the capital town of the province or Biliran. It is situated adjacent to the northernmost part of the Leyte. Naval is a west coast municipality of Biliran province. On the north is the town of Almeria and on the south, Biliran. UPC Naval is situated in Brgy. Atipolo, along the road towards the municipality of Almeria.
Naval is approximately 122 Km. from Tacloban City and 88 Km. from Ormoc City. Bus travel time going to and from these cities is about 2 hours through a wellpaved road. Naval seaport is the main link to Cebu City. Passenger and cargo ships link Cebu and Biliran through the Naval port. Hopefully, the roll-on-roll-off link from Kawayan and Maripipi to Sorsogon be operational soon.
Naval has a total land area of 10,824 hectares divided into 26 component barangays; one of which is the famous Higatangan island. This barangay is best known for its white shifting sand bar. The water is crystal clear and best for snorkeling. UPC has established a church in the island, now pastored by Bro. Eddie Caņezo.
Naval is an economically booming town, being the center of trade and commerce in the province, including some parts of Leyte province. Naval has one state college, the Naval Institute of Technology where education, engineering, computer, business, law, medical and business courses are offered. Other schools are found in other municipalities. Naval has one local radio station, Radyo Natin which also can be heard online all over the world, accessible at www.biliranisland.com. There are also the communication services of SMART, Globe and PLDT, both landline, mobile and internet. Courier services are also available through LBC, JRS, and Western Union. |
