VOLUME 6, NO.  11

L PROGRAM PLANNED FOR 2002-2003

In August, the TDC Board approved planning for a USDF "L" Education Program, to be held beginning the end of May, 2002. This is an exciting educational opportunity for the dressage community throughout Arizona.

The purpose of this program is to:
a) provide pre-training for future judges and to fulfill the AHSA requirement for entering the "r" judges training program;
b) to provide a list of graduates who can show accreditation for judging schooling shows ("L" or "learner" judges);
c) to give the competitor, trainer, and instructor a broader insight into the

evaluative techniques of judging; and,
d) to provide ongoing and refresher education for licensed judges.

To participate in the program you must be a USDF Participating Member, and have either (1) earned three scores of 60% or higher at Second Level or above from 3 different AHSA-licensed judges at recognized competitions OR (2) trained two or more horses which have each achieved four scores of 60% or higher at Forth Level or above from 4 different judges at recognized shows OR (3) taught two or more students who have each achieved four or more scores at 60% or higher at Fourth Level or above from four different judges at recognized shows.

Auditors will also be welcome. Auditing is an excellent choice for people who do not plan to judge, but who want more information about evaluating dressage performance.

We are awaiting word from USDF about our application for permission to host the program. If you are interested in participating, or serving as a demo rider in any of three sessions, please contact: Michelle Manshardt (eltonpup@hotmail.com/ 762-5091); Josh Coleman (azctlmster@@yahoo.com/906-3251) or Ellen Basso (bassjaff@theriver.com/520-896-9093). And of course we will need volunteers - but more on that later!

many members for the Awards Committee to know that Poopsie is in fact Sir Gallahad the Great.
A variation of this error is the horse who has breed honors.  For example, Arabians have names that sometimes include these honors. If you enter your horse as TG ALI-BABA /+ on one entry form, and the next show you enter him as TG ALI-BABA, THIS IS A DIFFERENT HORSE.  It is NOT the responsibility of the Awards Committee to figure out what you
meant.

  • Horses or riders were switched in a class at a TDC-recognized schooling show and you either (a) didn't tell the schooling show secretary or (b) the schooling show records are incorrect. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your rides are recorded correctly. In the August and September issues of Transitions, the Awards Committee asked that you either review your scores on the TDC website (www.tucsondressage.org) or contact Doris Leacy, Awards Committee, for verification.
  • The Awards Committee made an

error. They are human. Currently these awards are calculated MANUALLY. Figure out your own average some time; then do it another 160+ times for each of our members.
It is
your responsibility to verify with the Awards Chairperson in early September of the award year to make sure you both have the same scores.
To provide proof of a presumed error, you should keep your tests.

In your case, I researched your membership date and your rides for the last award year on the TDC website and the
Transitions website (www.angelfire.com/az3/transitions). It's easier to look on the Transitions website because it has a search function and you can search on your last name. You became a member in February 2001, so the TDC-recognized show that you did in October 2000 does not count toward yearend awards. In addition, the scores from the dressage part of the schooling event do not qualify because it is not a TDC-recognized schooling show. The remainder of your scores did not qualify you for
