The following equipment list, summarized in table 1 on page 12, is helpful to have with you during your journey with horses. This spare equipment must be secure in your vehicle, along with anything you have tied to your trailer or truck.
Important Documents: Hauling cards, vehicle and trailer registration, insurance documents, and emergency notification information. Photos of Horses: Photos can be very helpful if horses somehow become free in an accident, are stolen, or let out of the trailer by vandals at a rest stop. Telephone numbers and directions to your locations. Names and phone numbers for veterinarians along the route. Road Map Cash Spare Keys: Keep a key in a magnetic box somewhere attached to the outside of your vehicle. Spare keys are critical if you are locked out in hot weather. Water: Plenty for you, horses, dogs, and anyone else traveling with you. Cell Phone: charger, extra batteries. First Aid Kits: For horses and humans, only carry tranquilizers if you are comfortable using them and keep them safe and maintained.
