After a noisy start, the TROT Benefit Schooling Show held April 14, 2001 at Aim High Equestrian Center offered some lovely rides and the opportunity to witness how flexible and understanding our club members really are. Due to construction delays, work on the show ring footing continued late into the night Friday the 13th. At 6 am on Saturday, construction crews were again frantically working to finish the dressage arena before the 8 a.m. start time. By "crews", I mean men driving HUGE tractors, front loaders, dump trucks, and the like. By 7 am, people were arriving and horses were snorting. Since the footing in the small dressage arena was beautiful, we made the decision to hold morning classes in the short ring and hoped to get the large court set by lunchtime. By 11 a.m., construction ceased for the day and classes resumed in the full-size dressage arena.
Many thanks to the wonderful group of riders at the show who were incredibly understanding. A number of competitors even volunteered to help set up the show ring. Show management didn't hear one complaint about the noise or distraction and most of the horses took it all in stride. Huge thanks must also go to our judge, Lia Falco, who kept a good humor about her the whole day. Special thanks go to Beth and Mike High who toiled tirelessly to get the facility ready (Beth installed the warm-up arena footing by hand on Friday). Thanks also go to Annette Davis, show manager, Jennifer Parker, show secretary, Raina Maier, scribe, Beth Glass and Joanne Triplett, score adders, Robin Ritter, runner, Randy Fisher and Bill Hoey, traffic control, and the wonderful TROT volunteers Lenci Loring, Georgia Rice, and Becky Hulett who filled in as needed.
