It's been a busy spring for those of us here at Agape Dressage and the end is almost in sight with the coming of the TDC Beat the Heat Show, May 12-13. It all began in January at the SAAHA Open Breed Show where Lucy Ziurys and Star Fleet logged four wins in four classes at First Level. The pair was also named Adult Amateur High Point Champions. In February, I traveled with Bogotta+ to the Scottsdale All Arabian Horse Show. We turned in solid performances at Prix St. George and 4th 3 to win the FEI High Point and the 4th Level Stakes Class. In March, Anna Calek and Kaibab, Lynn Boice and Never Say Never, Beth High and Mondstrahl, Lucy Ziurys and Star Fleet, and Neblig and I made the trip to CARA for the Champagne show. Every student won a class at the show that had stiff competition. Dorie and Uli hosted a beautifully run show with a great Saturday night party. The same group also traveled to ADA and overcame footing difficulties (rain again!) to earn some wonderful scores and placings. Despite feeling like she had an awful test, Lynn Boice and Never Say Never won a class of 24 with a 71.2%! The entire group is looking forward to Regionals in Santa Fe this September.
Robin Ritter and I would like to remind everyone about the Retirement Party for Saloma+ Saturday evening of the Beat the Heat Show. If you plan on attending please RSVP to Robin at 795-0444 by May 10th.
Congratulations to my mom, Ann Alden, who finally found a wonderful place to call home. Ann bought a working cattle ranch in Pearce, AZ. For those of you not current on your southern Arizona ghost towns, Pearce is located in the Dragoon Mountains near Cochise's Stronghold.

On April first there was no foolin' around at Aim High! We were very happy to see the big yellow trucks roll in to signal the start of the construction of our new facility!
Due to some rainy weather and conflicts, the construction got behind schedule just as we were preparing to host the TROT Benefit Horse Schooling Show. But as they say, the show must go on!! And thanks to Mark Barodkin, owner of Dynasty Contracting, and his crew, who worked overtime late into the night, we managed to pull of a successful show. In spite of those big yellow trucks roaring and beep, beep, beeping, the morning classes were held in the warm-up arena while the large arena was being finished. The riders and their horses were definitely challenged by that unique schooling opportunity, but they rose above the inconvenience and demonstrated what dressage training can do to overcome an unexpected situation. Thanks to all the TROT volunteers, TDC staff, and competitors for being such good sports.
Congratulations to those from Aim high who rode in the TROT Schooling Show. Pia Cuneo showed her mare Trixie in Training Level and did so well that her fans were finally able to convince her to enter the TDC Beat the Heat Show! Lindey Olsen scored in the seventies with her Rhinelander, Amos. (We'll miss you, Lindy, 'til next fall.) Rachel High scored excellent marks in the Introductory classes on both her ponies. Lindy and Rachel are both coached by Michelle Manshardt. Michelle also rode Tess Johnson's young mare, Lily, in her dressage debut. Two of Anna Calek's students, Barbara and 7-year-old Lauren, also made a great showing in the Introductory classes.
Anna competed herself in the ADA Spring Celebration Show at WestWorld. She and her warmblood Kaibab had one of their best shows ever.
Several Aim High stars also showed at the Bel Air SATA Show, the Appaloosa Open Breed Show, and the Diamondback Pony Club Trials. What a busy month!
This spring delivered our first two barn babies: Congratulations to Ian and Jennifer McDowell on the birth of their daughter, Sarah. And China, Tess Johnson's award-winning Hanoverian mare, produced a handsome bay colt who promises to make some lucky person a fine dressage horse.
Good luck to all at Beat the Heat! We'll see you there!
