TRANSITIONS

VOLUME 7, NO.  3

Noel Hansen retired from her job with the FAA as a computer specialist in the air traffic division in New Jersey. She moved to Tucson seven years ago with her Quarter Horse, Fancy.

Two years later, she purchased Jolson, a Dutch warmblood, and started showing this temperamental youngster. Much patience was needed to instill confidence and trust in him. Noel would arrive at shows two days early because this horse needed extra time.

Many members will remem-ber Noel at shows for her excellent sportsmanship. She was always quick with friendly smiles and encouragement for other competitors. Humble with her own many accom-plishments, she made others feel important.

Retired yes, but Noel was busy all the time. Noel, a retired executive, groomed for me for over two years. Noel volunteered for TDC in the capacities of awards chairperson, barn manager at TDC shows, and volunteer coordinator at one show. Being deaf didn't slow her

will continue Noel's "mission to provide scholarships for instruction in horsemanship to low-income and at-risk children." For information about the school, contact Libby at  520-572-8781.

On December 28, 2001, Noel passed away from cancer at her son's home in New Jersey. Noel  also had one daughter and two grandchildren.

Noel's legacy to us was her love of horses and people. She was everyone's "best friend". At the Flagstaff show, Noel received a 10 from the judge. Noel was a rare "10" to those of us who knew and loved her.

Editor's Note: Noel's family requested that donations be made in Noel's memory to charity. The Tucson Dressage Club has donated $100 to Noel's Barn. In addition, TDC is currently developing the criteria for the Noel Hansen Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award.
