Exciting and exhausting, two words aptly describe the Spring USDF Executive Board Meeting that I attended May 3-5. This was the last one held in Lincoln with the move of the USDF offices at the end of the month. First on the agenda, Sam Barish, USDF President, introduced our new executive director, Stephan Hienzsch. We then proceeded through all the council and committee reports. The following are a few highlights. The move to Kentucky Horse Park is on track. The present office will close on Friday May 31 and reopen at the new temporary office on Monday June 3. Hiring of new staff has seen many applications with equestrian experience and an emphasis on career employees. A planned video "On the Levels" featuring the new dressage tests was approved. Conventions: A committee was formed to look at future dates. GMO baskets will be part of a "silent auction" with the proceeds going to the Ruth Arvanette Memorial Fund, which provides funds for attending the convention. The next convention is in Portland, followed by Dallas in 2003 and Lexington in 2004. DataBase: Sarah Jane Martin reported on the progress of the new database. She hopes we can start the next competition year with the new database. Competitor/Judges/Trainers forums are planned for each region. The object of the forum is to increase communication and discussion between the three groups with the ultimate goal of increasing the competitors' understanding of what judges are
