Dear TDC Volunteers, I want to thank all the people who volunteered for the TDC Beat the Heat Horse Show. Without the 50 or so volunteers, we wouldn't be able to have the show. I especially want to thank Ellie Stine-Masek and Jay Chabucos. Ellie and Jay were given the last-minute news that my dad was in the hospital again, and I needed to go to Chicago to see him. As club president and show manager, the last thing you want to hear is that your volunteer coordinator is not going to be at the show. Ellie and Jay were both very understanding. I thank them for that.

My dad's health problems began last June, at age 60, with a quadruple bypass. He recovered enough to make the trip to Arizona in October to see me married to John Russell (that handsome farrier you all saw at the showgrounds). During this past month, though, more complications have set in. He's been back in the hospital twice, diagnosed with congestive heart failure. My mom was grateful to see me. She told me that I made up for all the Mother's Days that I have missed because of horse shows (and Father's Days, too). We don't discuss the fact that Dad is dying

but continue to be hopeful instead. I'm leaving Chicago feeling in my heart that this is my last visit with Dad.
So, again, I want to thank everyone who worked so hard at the show to allow me to have this time with my family.
Sincere Thanks, Wendy Russell
