Scholarship Applications
Due September 30th

JULY MESSAGE

ADULT EDUCATION GRANTS
The adult educational grant money ($1500) has been awarded to the following programs:
$450 - RMDS Adult Camp
$450 - Northern Arizona Chapter of ADA Adult Camp
$200 - Seminar with Udo Zeiler, Utah Dressage Society
$200 - Seminar with Stephen Clarke, Central Arizona Riding Academy
$200 - Seminar with Axel Steiner, Western Colorado Chapter of RMDS
A committee consisting of our regional adult education coordinator, treasurer and director carefully reviewed each of the nine education grant requests submitted. The grants were awarded to the programs that had greatest potential for educational benefit and participation level.

REGION FIVE SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Purpose: The intent of the Region Five Scholarship Grants shall be to assist active Region Five members in the endeavors to enhance dressage education.
Eligibility:
1. Be a member in good standing with a Region Five GMO and this GMO must have donated money to the scholarship fund in the previous year.
2. Be a participating member in good standing with the USDF.
3. Be a resident of Region Five, living within the region for a minimum of ten months a year.
4. Be an active participant in the GMO, Region Five, or USDF with a minimum of 20 hours certified service to any of the above mentioned organizations. Hours can be combined and must be volunteer hours in the calendar year of application. Verification of volunteer hours must be certified by GMO

president, show manager, etc.
The application should include:
1. Name, address, phone/fax, and USDF membership number
2. Biography of related dressage activities
3. Verification of volunteer hours
4. Short essay on how the receipt of a scholarship would benefit Region
5. Itemized budget
6. An article for the Region Five newsletter will be required.

Applications should be submitted by August 1 to the regional director. Snail mail: 10813 W. Morten Ave, Glendale, AZ 85307). The scholarship committee will review all applications. The scholarship winner(s) will be announced at the Region Five meeting at the USDF convention.

USDF NEWS The following nominations have been received by the deadline of June 1 for officers to serve three-year terms beginning on January 1, 2003: Secretary: Marlene Groman (ME), Janine Malone (NC), and Sarah Jane Martin (TX) Treasurer: Barbara Funk (WA) Vice President: George Williams (OH) President: Sam Barish (MD) Additional candidates may be nominated from the floor of the Board of Governors on Friday and Saturday of the Annual Convention in Portland.

The move to Lincoln went smoothly and the office is fully staffed.

Applications and supporting  documentation for the 2002 Major Anders Lindgren Scholarship are due at The Dressage Foundation on or before September 30, 2002.

The Major Anders Lindgren Scholarship is available annually from The Dressage Foundation, to help an individual improve his/her teaching and training of Dressage by studying abroad. This scholarship will award up to $6,000 and must be used within two years from the time of the grant.

TALENTED AND SUCCESSFUL DRESSAGE INSTRUCTORS, TRAINING THROUGH FOURTH LEVEL, ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. Those in the USDF certified pool are preferred. The Selection Committee of top Dressage people will choose the recipient who will be presented at the USDF Annual Convention in Portland, OR in December. Previous recipients are: Becky Langwost (1996), Loma Fowler (1997), Jennifer Baumert (1998), Sarah Geikie (1999), Susan Hoffman Peacock (2000).
