personal trainer is not considered a coach.

When is a coach required to sign and when not? A coach is required to sign the entry blank whenever he or she is acting as a coach at the competition. If a person has two or more coaches, all must sign. A steward or TDC can feel free to inquire of any individual in the warm-up, practice, or in-gate areas whether he/she has signed the entry blank. It is particularly important when a coach is participating in an area where he/she might be injured (e.g., schooling rings) that he/she has signed. The only times a coach does not sign are when he/she is the parent/guardian of a minor exhibitor and has thus already signed the entry blank in that capacity, when he/she is not receiving remuneration, or when he/she is under 18 and acting as a coach.

If you have any questions about the application of the rules regarding coaches, please email or telephone me at the Federation (kmcelligott@equestrian.org or 859-225-6959) and we will endeavor to provide assistance.

We thank you all for your cooperation and look forward to a wonderful competition year 2002!

See also Articles 1502.4 and .6."

A trainer, according to the rules (Article 120), is "any adult, or adults who has the responsibility for the care, training, custody or performance of a horse. Said person must sign the entry blank of any Recognized Competition whether said person be an owner, rider, agent and/or coach as well as trainer. Where a minor exhibitor has no trainer, a parent or guardian must sign and assume responsibility of trainer. The name of the trainer must be designated as such on the entry blank. See also Art. 404."
